Job Overview

As part of our expansion to being one of the Regional Training Academies for the Southwest Region, we are seeking an enthusiastic highly motivated nurse ideally with appropriate experience in an acute setting, with a commitment to team working and a keen interest in continuous improvement. Experience in an endoscopy setting would be an advantage, but full training will be given. All nurses complete a bespoke induction programme which will be tailored to your specific needs. Once completed, you will be expected to participate in the cross‑county on‑call rota providing out‑of‑hours emergency care. Following induction you will be expected to undertake a number of specific endoscopy courses in line with your ongoing development programme. Key Responsibilities

* Assess, plan, implement, evaluate and provide high quality nursing care.
* Work effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
* Manage caseload of patients within defined clinical area.
* Participate in the on‑call emergency bleed rota.
* Organise own time and that of junior staff and students (including WTE and headcount).
* Support senior members of staff in the management and supervision of the defined clinical area.
* Be responsible for the coordination of the clinical area in the absence of a more senior nurse.


Key Result Areas

* Demonstrate ability to assess patient condition and implement appropriate care within the multidisciplinary team.
* Safely decontaminate endoscopes used within the department and other areas both manually and using AER'S.
* Accessorise in the Endoscopy theatre supporting the doctor and Endoscopy assistant.
* Manage the patient’s airway/monitor condition during the endoscopic procedure.
* Communicate effectively, especially where patient ability to do so is compromised.
* Disseminate contentious and delicate information appropriately.
* Deliver safe care within a challenging and changing clinical environment, using nursing/Endoscopy equipment and resources safely and as appropriate.
* Administer medication and treatment within the Procedure for the Ordering, Prescribing and Administration of Medication Guidelines.
* Deliver and receive information which may cause emotional distress to all parties.
* Participate in mentorship and educational programmes for students and other members of the team.
* Adhere to all Trust policies and procedures and the professional code of conduct.
* Regularly responsible for the supervision and mentorship of unqualified, qualified staff and students.
* Input and retrieve patient and staff information from computer based systems.
* Maintain accurate and contemporaneous patient records.


Qualifications & Skills

* Registered Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Council, holding an appropriate teaching/assessing qualification.
* Appropriate experience within an acute clinical area.
* Enhanced IT skills.
* Enhanced levels of dexterity and accuracy pertaining to clinical skills (e.g., admission of intravenous injections/cannulation).
* Act as a resource for all staff, disseminating clinical skills and knowledge.
* Ensure personal and professional development progresses through Individual Performance Development Review and PREP guidelines.
* Demonstrate understanding of research-based practice and participate as required in audit.
* Ability to disseminate, manage, and communicate complex information effectively.
* Strong understanding of audit processes and evidence-based practice.
* Experience in an endoscopy setting is an advantage.


Physical Requirements

* Work within recognised Manual Handling guidelines; may be expected to frequently manoeuvre patients/objects over 15kg using appropriate aids for short periods of time.
* Exposure to unpleasant working conditions, including chemicals; must follow policies and procedures pertaining to bodily fluids, infection control and COSHH regulations.
* May be required to work in confined spaces.
* Work pattern may be unpredictable and requires concentration (e.g., drug rounds).
