We operate a 24 hour, 7 day a week service for our patients, the hours/shifts vary dependent on the location, as part of the role of an ACA there will be a requirement to cover out of hours shifts on a relief rota basis, please contact us for further information on the possible shift patterns for the area that you are applying for.
Job overview
We are currently looking for enthusiastic and passionate Ambulance Care Assistants to transport our patients, who are frail or need specialist assistance, to and from appointments at hospitals, treatment centre's and other similar facilities.
We can offer you a 3 week paid training course. You would need to be available to attend a training on a full time basis over a period of 15 workings days. Clinically trained to standards that allow you to be competent as a ‘First Person on Scene’, patient transport driver training, and a full uniform. Every day is different as an ACA and you could really make a difference to our patients.
During the training course it is your responsibility to attend in full, on each day. Accommodation and travel expenses will not be provided so you will need to consider the costs and travel expense of attending these venues. As an example Welwyn Garden City and Chelmsford. You MUST be able to commit to undertaking the training course as outlined above.
Please be aware that the PTS contract in North Essex has been awarded to a private ambulance provider HTG from April 2026 therefore this role would be eligible to TUPE to the new provider from April 2026 under NHS terms and conditions.
Main duties of the job
To convey and care for patients who have been appropriately allocated within the protocols of the East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust. This includes acute, urgent and routine patients.
To work in a team of two, or on your own, undertaking duties in a variety of vehicle types.

Qualifications
* Full car driving licence (max 3 penalty points on licence)
* C1 (1 for Provisional)
Knowledge & Experience
* Experience of working with the public, demonstrating sound customer care skills
* Experience of working in a fast-paced environment, and ability to remain calm and professional.
* Previous work in a caring profession.
* Knowledge of Patient Transport Services.
You are required to hold a full UK manual driving licence with 1 year driving experience (a maximum of 3 penalty points for minor motoring offences will be considered).
