We are seeking an experienced research engineer in software/firmware for sensors to join the CUE Robotics Team at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow. This is an exciting opportunity to become part of a dynamic, fast-paced environment, working alongside experts in robotics and automation. This position will play a key role in a small team developing novel automated inspection systems for the UK’s next-generation submarine fleet, with a particular focus on the inspection of structural components, tanks, and pipework. We are looking for a candidate with substantial professional engineering experience (including working to standards) to complement the research strengths of the existing team.
Responsibilities
Contribute to the design, development, and integration of software/firmware for sensors and automated inspection systems. Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, contribute to system architecture, and assist with project management and technical documentation. Support demonstrations at partner sites and travel as required to meetings and implementation sites.
Qualifications
• Hold a PhD in engineering or equivalent.
• Proven track record of delivering complex engineering projects, with hands-on expertise in software design and architecture, system integration, project management, and technical documentation.
• Willingness and ability to travel for partner-site meetings and demonstrations.
• A valid UK driving licence and access to a vehicle would be advantageous.
Additional Details
This is a full-time, fixed-term post for an initial period of three years, with the potential for extension subject to future funding. The role is based at the University’s city centre campus in Glasgow.
Note: A Post-Doctoral Research Associate is ideally sought; applications from candidates near PhD completion or with pending awards are welcome. In such cases, the appointment will be at Research Assistant level (RS06 salary scale £33,002 - £36,636) with duties adjusted to reflect the grade. The duties and grade may be revised upon PhD award confirmation.
