The Role
Senior Finance Business Partner leads the provision of financial support to one or more functional directorates. They will be at the heart of decisions, supporting the organisation to deliver on its business plan and corporate objectives. The Senior Finance Business Partner will provide strategic, value‑adding financial insight and analysis to executive and senior management, enabling effective decision‑making. As a key interface with the organisation, they work with the wider Finance and Governance leadership team to coordinate the delivery of services across complex operational and capital portfolios, ensuring robust governance, efficiency, and continuous improvement.
Role Responsibilities
* Lead the development and delivery of comprehensive financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting processes for assigned business areas, ensuring alignment with organisational strategy and the provision of robust, actionable insights to inform executive decision‑making.
* Drive the timely and accurate production and critical review of management information, financial analysis, and performance dashboards, utilising advanced analytics to identify trends, risks, and opportunities that support the achievement of business objectives.
* Partner with senior leaders and cross‑functional teams to challenge assumptions, influence strategic initiatives, and ensure financial implications are fully considered in key business decisions and investment cases to ensure outcomes are value for money and in accord with the Business Plan and remit.
* As part of regular department reviews and as a member of multidisciplinary projects, oversee the identification, evaluation, and implementation of cost optimisation and efficiency initiatives, to ensure the organisation delivers value for money and sustainable financial performance.
* Operate the financial governance and control framework within assigned areas, working with the Controllership team to ensure compliance with internal policies, statutory requirements, and best practice standards, and taking responsibility for the completion of agreed upon actions and improvements.
* Through regular meetings and performance reviews manage, develop and inspire a high‑performing finance business‑partnering team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, collaboration, and professional growth to ensure that the Finance and Governance team can deliver high quality services to the organisation.
* Champion the adoption of digital tools and data‑driven decision‑making within finance and the wider business, supporting the organisation’s transformation agenda to deliver on the organisation’s strategic objectives.
* Provide expert financial advice and guidance to executive and senior management, including attendance and presentation to executive level meetings and governance forums, supporting the development and delivery of strategic business plans and major projects.
* Monitor and report on key financial and operational performance indicators, ensuring timely escalation of material risks and opportunities to senior stakeholders in accord with governance, internal controls and reporting requirements.
* Build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external partners, including auditors, regulators, and funding bodies, through regular contact and collaboration, to support organisational objectives and ensure transparency.
Who we’re looking for
* Qualified accountant (e.g., ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CIPFA) with a track record of delivering value in a senior finance role.
* Demonstrable experience in leading financial planning and analysis, or business partnering within a complex, multi‑stakeholder environment to strict deadlines.
* High level of proficiency in driving insight, thought leadership, developing options and investment cases to support effective decisions through the use of tools such as financial modelling, data analysis, and the use of digital tools.
* Demonstrable experience of effectively managing teams & competing priorities, setting clear direction and making informed decisions that align with organisational goals.
* Understanding of financial governance, control frameworks, and compliance requirements.
