The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering is currently seeking skilled and enthusiastic postdoctoral researchers to join our Research and Development team. Our team is engaged in a variety of ground-breaking research initiatives, including projects in vessel decarbonisation, innovative vessel propulsion, alternative fuels for range extension of electric vessels, energy storage systems, artificial intelligence/machine learning, digital twins, and blockchain technology for operations and maintenance. This position is part of the Maritime Future Fuels Training Plan project, which aims to develop and deliver the UK's first nationally scalable, regulation-aligned training framework for alternative marine fuels and hybrid-electric propulsion. It brings together industry-leading vessel operators, academic institutions, maritime training providers, and technology developers to address a critical skills gap in the safe handling, design, and operation of low- and zero-emission maritime technologies. You will be required to lead dissemination and exploitation activities, focusing on long-term implementation and delivery pathways for a national Maritime Future Fuels Training Plan. You should have a PhD (or equivalent professional experience) in an appropriate engineering discipline (Naval Architecture/Civil/Structural Engineering /Mechanical/Renewable Energy/Engineering Management). The post is fixed-term and is available until 31 March 2026. If you are still awaiting your PhD to be awarded you will be appointed at Grade 6, spine point 30. Upon written confirmation that you have been awarded your PhD, your salary will be increased to Grade 7, spine point 31.
