Overview
Following a donation by Nano Nuclear Energy Inc. to increase the capacity for teaching and research in Nuclear Energy in the University, we are searching for an Assistant Research Professor (fixed term) based in the Department of Earth Sciences. The successful candidate will work closely with Cambridge Nuclear Energy Centre to develop teaching and research programmes in Nuclear Energy in the Department of Earth Sciences and across the University.
This is a three-year appointment allowing the ARP to apply for other sources of funding as principal investigator.
Qualifications
The successful candidate will have a PhD in Earth Sciences, Materials, Physics or a closely related discipline and have a strong publication record in the field of nuclear materials. Demonstrated experience of research into the durability of nuclear waste forms and their disposability in a geological context will be highly advantageous.
Responsibilities
Duties include developing and conducting individual and collaborative research objectives, proposals and projects and managing research budgets. The post holder will be responsible for the investigation and delivery of their own research programmes, and assessing, interpreting and evaluating the outcomes. They are also expected to extend and apply knowledge, contribute to publications, present, and communicate complex ideas to those with limited knowledge. You need to be able to identify sources of funding, help secure funds and develop links with external contacts. The ARP will be expected contribute towards existing, and aid the development of, teaching programmes in Nuclear Energy, supervise postgraduate research students, mentor colleagues and carry out appraisals. Teaching experience and experience of research supervision is desirable.
Essential requirements
* PhD in a subject area relevant to Nuclear Energy;
* Substantial research experience (obtained in either academic or industrial settings);
* A strong track record in one or more relevant research areas;
* Evidence of high-quality research outputs;
* Evidence of potential for collaborations;
* Record of successful grant applications;
* Experience of managing research budgets;
* Teaching and research supervision experience (desirable).
