Mechanical Estimator We have an excellent opportunity for a Mechanical Estimator to join a thriving engineering company based in Romsey Introduction The primary role of the Mechanical Estimator would involve being responsible for producing accurate and competitive cost estimates for mechanical engineering projects. Responsibilities: * Review and interpret mechanical drawings, specifications, and tender documentation to define project scope and requirements. * Perform detailed quantity take-offs and prepare cost estimates for mechanical systems, including piping, tanks, manholes and pre fab pipe systems. * Source and evaluate supplier and subcontractor quotations to ensure best value, compliance, and reliability. * Prepare and submit complete tender packages, including cost breakdowns, clarifications, and supporting documentation. * Collaborate with project engineers, design teams, and procurement to ensure all technical and commercial aspects are accurately reflected in estimates. * Identify potential cost risks, assumptions, and opportunities for value engineering. * Maintain and update databases of materials, labour rates, and supplier pricing to support future estimates. * Participate in tender review meetings and provide feedback to refine estimating procedures and improve competitiveness. * Support project handover by clearly communicating cost and scope details to project delivery teams. * Attend site visits or pre-tender meetings as required to understand project conditions and constraints. Ideal Experience The ideal candidate will have proven experience as a Mechanical Estimator in a building services, process, or mechanical engineering environment. Also to have a strong understanding of mechanical systems, materials, fabrication, and installation methods ideally. Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and schematics. Proficiency in estimating software and Microsoft Excel. Excellent attention to detail and strong numerical and analytical skills Good communication and interpersonal skills to build effective relationships with suppliers, subcontractors, and internal stakeholders. Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tenders under tight deadlines. Full UK driving licence Desirable Qualifications HND or Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services, or a related discipline. Experience with cost control, risk assessment, and value engineering principles. Familiarity with industrial or process project estimating. Knowledge of relevant construction, health & safety, and mechanical standards and regulations.
