Sterile Services Production Service Manager (Grade 7)
Location: Oxford, John Radcliffe Hospital. Contract: Permanent. Salary: £49,387 - £56,515 per annum (closing 04/05/2026).
Job Overview
As Production Service Manager, you will provide senior operational leadership across the full sterile services production cycle, ensuring compliance with regulatory and quality standards (HTM 01‑01, ISO 13485). You will be accountable for device traceability, SLA/KPI delivery, staff competency, assurance, governance, and continuous improvement. You will directly manage supervisors, technicians and apprentices, and work closely with theatres, clinical services, kitting and carting teams.
Main Duties
* Direct daily production activities across washroom, IAP, sterilisation, cooling, release, storage and dispatch, ensuring capacity, staffing and machine availability align with demand and SLA objectives.
* Maintain comprehensive traceability of devices and sets using departmental information systems; uphold recall procedures.
* Execute contingency and business‑continuity strategies during downtime, coordinating communication with stakeholders.
* Oversee daily and weekly production planning to achieve turnaround targets and right‑first‑time quality standards.
* Monitor and control production KPIs; implement corrective actions for performance variances.
* Schedule downtime, maintenance and validation periods in collaboration with engineering and validation teams.
* Ensure segregation and traceability from receipt through dispatch through information and track‑and‑trace systems.
Key Responsibilities
* Quality management, compliance & audit
o Support operation of the Quality Management System (ISO 13485), including SOPs and controlled documents.
o Ensure compliance with HTM 01‑01, MHRA requirements and internal governance.
o Coordinate external audits, inspections, CAPA responses and maintain audit readiness.
* People leadership, training & competency
o Manage supervisors, technicians and production staff – recruitment, induction, rostering, appraisals and performance management.
o Support competency framework, training logs, re‑assessment and CPD.
o Promote learning culture, psychological safety and continuous improvement.
* Performance, data & information
o Set and monitor KPIs (turnaround times, defects, backlog, downtime). Produce monthly performance reports.
o Maintain integrity of the department information system, handle non‑conformance and recall readiness.
o Lead investigations of incidents, root‑cause analysis, CAPA implementation and risk register updates.
* Resources & finance
o Manage delegated budget areas (consumables, PPE), support procurement and cost‑improvement plans.
o Maintain inventory for detergents, indicators and spare parts; evaluate new products.
o Act as liaison for kitting, carting, theatres and other stakeholders – service reviews and continuous improvement initiatives.
Person Specification
* Qualifications
o Degree or equivalent in healthcare science/management or relevant technical discipline.
o IDSc Chartered Member (or ability to achieve within 12 months).
o AHCS Practitioner registration (or eligibility/commitment within 12 months).
o Evidence of HTM “User” course (within 6 months).
o Postgraduate qualification in Medical Device.
* Experience
o Significant decontamination production experience with supervision of washroom, IAP and sterilisation teams.
o Proven delivery of service‑level performance in a sterile services environment.
o Experience managing non‑conformances, investigations, CAPA and audit preparation.
o Rostering and resource planning in a 24/7 or extended‑hours service.
o Cross‑site service management and external certification audits (ISO 13485).
o Business case development and procurement support.

o Strong analytical skills – interpretation of quality data and equipment cycle results.
o Familiarity with robotics/minimally invasive instrument decontamination.
