We are looking for a proactive and experienced Senior SHE Manager. You play a critical role in safeguarding SGN’s people, reputation and license to operate. You will ensure safety is governed, understood and lived throughout the organisation in line with our Zero Harm initiative.
You will design, govern and maintain SGN’s Safety Management System (SMS) in line with legal, regulatory and industry standards (ISO 450001, Gas Safety Regulations etc). You will play a key role interfacing between SHE leadership, regulators and operational stakeholders to embed safety into decision-making culture, turning strategic safety objectives into practical governance frameworks that protect public, employee and asset safety.

1. You will lead and govern the Safety Management System (SMS)
2. You will be responsible for developing and maintaining SHE Policies and Procedures
3. Leading assurance activities such as performance monitoring, audits and document control, verifying and monitoring performance, compliance and driving improvement
4. Support assurance and regulatory engagement across SGN
5. Driving safety culture across the business, ensuring safety embedded into the day to day operations
6. Engaging with key stakeholders in SHE leadership, across the wider business and regulatory bodies
What you will need:
7. At least 5 years of experience in SHE roles within gas, utilities, energy or infrastructure sectors with high-risk work
8. Excellent understanding of gas distribution environments and the associated risks
9. Proven experience leading SHE governance frameworks and influencing cross-functional teams
10. You have experience chairing or significantly contributing to SHE committees, policy boards or audit panels
11. You have demonstratable ability to embed safety culture through governance, leadership engagement and behavioural safety initiatives
12. You have experience working directly with regulators (HSE, Ofgem etc) and responding to formal investigations or improvement notices
13. Led or significantly supported major change initiatives involving SHE systems such as SMS overhauls, ISO transitions or digital platform rollouts
Preferred Qualifications:
14. Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience
15. NEBOSH National Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety
16. Chartered Membership of IOSH (CMIOSH)
You may have to travel between business area sites across South England and Scotland. You may need to spend occasional nights away from home
