SEN Teacher Assistant - Full Time - Long-Term - Harrow - November Start

We are proud to be working with a specialist SEN school in Harrow that caters to pupils aged 11-16 with Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD) and a range of additional needs including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), communication difficulties, sensory processing needs, and physical disabilities.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a strong, reliable, and enthusiastic SEN Teacher Assistant to join the team on a full-time, long-term basis, starting this month.

This role will involve supporting a small group of Key Stage 3 and 4 students who have complex needs and benefit from a calm, consistent, and empathetic adult presence. Due to the nature of the class and the pupils you will support, the school has expressed a preference for a male Teacher Assistant to provide appropriate support, care, and role modelling.

SEN Teacher Assistant Responsibilities:

1. Support the class teacher in delivering tailored learning activities to meet individual EHCP (Education, Health and Care Plan) targets.
2. Provide 1:1 and small group support, both inside and outside the classroom.
3. Assist pupils with communication, sensory regulation, and personal care where required.
4. Help manage challenging behaviour using positive reinforcement strategies and school-approved behaviour management techniques.
5. Support students with practical life skills, emotional regulation, and social interaction.
6. Collaborate closely with teachers, therapists, and external professionals to ensure consistent support for each pupil.
7. Maintain accurate records of progress, achievements, and daily observations.

Ideal SEN Teacher Assistant:

8. Experienced in working with children or young people with SLD, ASD, or other complex needs.
9. Confident, patient, and adaptable, with the ability to remain calm under pressure.
10. Able to engage and motivate students through creative and practical approaches to learning.
11. Comfortable with aspects of personal care and physical support where required.
12. Excellent communication skills with staff, parents, and external agencies.
13. Holds an Enhanced DBS check (on the Update Service or willing to apply).
14. Ideally holds relevant qualifications such as Level 2/3 in Supporting Teaching & Learning, Health and Social Care, or Psychology.

Teacher Assistant Benefits:

15. A warm, inclusive, and supportive environment where staff are truly valued.
16. Ongoing training and professional development in areas such as Team Teach, Makaton, and PECs.
17. A well-structured timetable with opportunities for creative and hands-on learning.
18. Dedicated leadership and support from an experienced SEN team.
19. Potential to transition into a permanent role for the right candidate.
