Why this role matters
The CEO holds the vision, leadership, and responsibility for driving meaningful,
community-led change in one of Bradford’s most diverse and underrepresented
areas. As a trusted local organisation, Scholemoor Beacon plays a vital role in
supporting people to learn, grow, and connect — often being the first place they
turn to for support, opportunity, or a sense of belonging.
The successful candidate will be key to ensuring that this support remains
relevant, inclusive, and sustainable. They must lead with heart and strategy —
listening to local voices, building partnerships, managing resources wisely, and
inspiring staff, volunteers, and residents alike.
What you will be doing
As CEO, your day-to-day work will be varied, hands-on, and people-focused. You’ll balance
strategic leadership with operational oversight, ensuring the organisation runs smoothly
while staying rooted in the community it serves.
You will:
Lead and support the staff team, creating a positive and inclusive working culture, holding
regular check-ins, and ensuring staff are well-supported in their roles.
Work closely with the Board of Trustees, preparing reports, updating on key activities and
risks, and helping to shape and deliver the organisation’s strategy.
Oversee the day-to-day running of the community centre, ensuring it is welcoming, safe,
and well-used — and that bookings, activities, and community use are managed effectively.
Build and maintain relationships with local partners, funders, and stakeholders — including the council, schools, health providers, and other voluntary sector organisations.
Lead fundraising and income generation, including writing or supporting funding bids,
managing contracts, and reporting to funders.
Represent Scholemoor Beacon in the wider community, being a visible and approachable
leader who listens, learns, and advocates for local voices.
Ensure strong governance and compliance, overseeing budgets, policies, safeguarding, and
data protection with the support of the board and staff team.
Stay connected to the community, attending events, engaging with residents, and making sure services and activities are genuinely shaped by local needs and ideeas.
Informal discussions are welcome with the current postholder. Please contact Susan Moreland, susan@scholemoorbeacon.org.uk to arrange a convenient time.
Interviews and assessment are planned for week beginning 14/7/25, dates and times will be agreed with candidates.
