Senior Product Development Engineer – Forestry (Polymer Science Background Preferred)
Location: Cardiff, UK (On-site)
Working hours: Monday – Friday, 40 hours
Note: This is a site-based role near Cardiff, and occasional travel is required. Candidates must have the right to work in the UK.
Our client is seeking an experienced Product Development Engineer to drive innovation and development within the forestry product segment at our facility near Cardiff. This role will lead the creation of new and improved products, optimize cost efficiency, and support commercial growth by delivering solutions that meet customer needs and maintain market leadership.
Key Responsibilities:
* Lead and execute the development of new and improved products from concept to commercialization.
* Conduct feasibility studies, prepare Business Opportunity Case Assessments (BOCAs), and manage the end-to-end product development lifecycle.
* Plan, manage, and report on product trials in collaboration with Operations, Procurement, Process Engineering, and Quality teams.
* Evaluate new product specifications, develop prototypes, and manage validation and testing processes.
* Assess and manage safety risks associated with product development, ensuring alignment with EHS requirements.
* Support commercial teams in successful product launches and build strong technical relationships with key customers.
* Maintain close collaboration with suppliers, universities, and external laboratories to identify and integrate new technologies or materials.
* Conduct benchmarking studies of competitor products to inform development and product differentiation.
* Manage the introduction and qualification of new raw materials, including regulatory approval and quality testing.
* Advise and support Operations in process and cost optimization initiatives.
Qualifications & Experience:
* Bachelor’s degree in a science-based discipline (polymer chemistry preferred).
* 5+ years of professional experience in product development, ideally within extrusion.
* Proven ability to plan and execute major development projects.
* Strong analytical, creative, and strategic thinking skills.
* High computer literacy and excellent communication skills in English.
