Probate Specialist Location: Kirkby in Ashfield (hybrid) Hours: Full-time (35 hours per week) Salary: Competitive, based on experience About the Role Are you an experienced probate practitioner looking to join a modern, people-focused law firm that values both technical expertise and work-life balance? We're looking for a dedicated Probate Specialist to handle a diverse and often complex caseload of estate administration matters. From high-value estates to those with cross-border or trust-related elements, this role is ideal for someone who thrives on delivering clear, compassionate legal support and who takes pride in handling work with precision and integrity. You'll lead files from start to finish while also mentoring junior team members and contributing to continuous improvements within the department. Key Responsibilities - Manage a full caseload of probate files, including taxable and non-taxable estates - Prepare and submit both online and paper probate applications (e.g., IHT205 and IHT400) - Draft comprehensive estate accounts and oversee the collection and distribution of assets - Handle more complex matters such as NRB trusts, international assets, and succession planning - Liaise with executors, beneficiaries, HMRC, financial institutions, and the Probate Registry - Offer practical, empathetic advice to clients at each stage of the administration process - Support, supervise and mentor junior colleagues, contributing to a collaborative team culture - Stay updated on legislative changes in probate, trusts, and inheritance tax - Adhere to compliance standards, including AML, GDPR, and relevant regulatory frameworks About You - 6-8 years' experience in UK probate and estate administration - Qualified solicitor, CILEX or STEP member (or equivalent practical experience) - Confident managing high-value, complex, and technically demanding estates - Strong knowledge of inheritance tax and estate taxation procedures - Experience with trust administration, particularly NRB and discretionary trusts - Able to supervise, guide and support junior staff when needed - Excellent attention to detail and strong communication skills - Proficient with legal case management systems and Microsoft Office What's in it for You? - Flexible working options to support your lifestyle and commitments - Flexitime system and the ability to take annual leave in hourly increments - Bonus scheme after an initial settling-in period - Structured development pathways and internal progression opportunities - Wellbeing and mental health support, plus dedicated wellbeing days - A supportive, down-to-earth team environment where your work is genuinely appreciated If this role is of interest to you please get in touch with Steph at Simpson Judge for a confidential conversation
