Are you an RVN who loves the art and science of nursing?
At Community Vets, you’ll have the time to do things properly, build lasting bonds with your patients and their owners, and thrive in a supportive, community-focused environment where your skills and dedication are truly valued.
Who are we?
Community Vets was founded in 2015 by Richard and Helen, who both qualified from Bristol Veterinary School in 1993. After many years in larger practices, they wanted to create a small, personal practice where compassionate, high-quality care is at the heart of everything they do. Here, clients and their pets feel genuinely known and supported.
They both appreciate the freedom of running an independent practice, where they can make changes quickly and adapt for the benefit of the team, the clients, and their pets. “We have intentionally stayed small, and for the last eight years, we’ve maintained a waiting list for new clients to remain true to our values: focusing on quality rather than quantity. Our 5-star Google reviews reflect this approach.”
They have built a practice where a genuine love for animals and people shapes every aspect of daily life. The strength of the service lies in the close-knit, dedicated team, whose focus is on building lasting relationships with patients and their owners. “We like our clients and their pets, and we always go the extra mile to help them. We listen to their needs, provide honest and transparent care, offer the best advice, and refer to excellent local specialists when necessary.”
They are also proud to be community-centred. “For our 10th anniversary, we organised a fundraising event with our clients – part summer fair, part village fête – where they hosted stalls to share their hobbies and talents, from baking to pottery to photography. Together, we raised over £3,000 to buy and maintain a community-accessible defibrillator for our site. It was a wonderful reminder that our clients aren’t just people who use our service – they are part of the team, too. That spirit of teamwork and care runs through everything we do.”
Here are a few things our team have said about Community Vets:
“Clients are like our ‘extended family’ - they become our friends and appreciate everything we do for them.”
“As a team, we are like a family - we have a strong bond and everyone is very easy to approach. We are always there for each other.”
“We have varied and interesting cases - no two days are ever the same.”
“Everyone’s opinion matters and is taken into consideration.”
The role

Work-life balance
At Community Vets, you’ll enjoy a genuinely positive work-life balance. This full-time role is generally a 5-day week, but we’re happy to accommodate a 4-day week if that suits you better. Our weekday hours are 9 am to 7 pm, although our last appointment is at 5:45 pm, so you’re often heading home shortly after 6 pm. Wednesdays are lighter, with consultations only until lunchtime, followed by a practice meeting or in-house CPD, and then finishing at 4 pm. Alternate Saturdays are mornings only (9 am–1 pm), and if you choose a 4-day week, you’ll enjoy a long weekend every other week—perfect for recharging and enjoying life outside of work.
There are no out-of-hours duties, as this is outsourced to a local hospital, which also takes care of any inpatients.
What we offer:
* Salary of £27,000–£33,000, depending on experience
* Fantastic work-life balance, with time for your hobbies, family, and interests
