Job Title: Executive Officer to the Mayor
Pay Rate: £25.92 an hour PAYE / £34.24 an hour UMBRELLA
Hours: 36 Hours a week (Mon-Fri) 9AM-5PM
Duration: Initial 3 month contract
Location: HYBRID WORKING – Office based Bernard Weatherill House Croydon 3 days a week.

The Executive Officer to the Mayor role plays a significant part in the delivery of the corporate and directorate priorities and in supporting the Mayor in their day‑to‑day work. They will directly support two members of our Corporate Management Team, the Corporate Director of Housing and the Corporate Director of Children & Education.
The role requires a clear and in‑depth understanding of Council activity in order to effectively deliver and coordinate work across a range of teams and stakeholders. The post holder will also have a critical role in supporting the corporate director in decision‑making, anticipating issues before they arise, developing solutions and actions and escalating to senior officers where necessary.
Responsibilities
* Co‑ordinate team documents for CMT and DMT meetings.
* Take minutes of meetings and provide updates to the Chief Executive and Mayor when they are deputising at meetings.
* Ensure the office of the Corporate Director has sufficient support at all times.
* Manage the diary of the Corporate Director, including scheduling and coordinating meeting requirements with internal and external stakeholders, and taking decisions without reference.
* Undertake special projects as determined by the CD (e.g., leading on preparation for inspections, organising events, assisting in collation of data).
* Review internal and external communications for the Chief Executive and Corporate Director, prepare presentations and draft content for speeches.
* Help manage complaints from the public, ensure responses are sent, and carry out information management duties such as Freedom of Information (FOI) requests.
* Oversee and service the requirements of key stakeholder meetings, create action plans for continuous improvement and ensure actions are completed across the directorate.
Essential Knowledge
* Wide ranging and detailed knowledge of Council activity and other relevant public bodies, including the current challenges facing Croydon Council and the wider Public Sector.
* Excellent understanding of the Council's vision, governance, objectives, strategies and policies.
Essential Experience
* Operating in a busy, demanding, complex and political environment.
* Working with or providing advice or recommendations to a senior leader.
* Collating complex reports, presentations and/or briefings in a concise and accessible manner.
* Working effectively in a team, including in a working group with multiple services represented.
Note: The role is very fast paced, so the client is looking for someone with experience supporting a high level, highly pressured leader, managing a hectic diary, logistics of events, proactive, attention to detail and able to hit the ground running.
