 
        
        Job Summary
You will provide person-centred, evidence-based counselling interventions for children and young people experiencing mild to moderate mental health challenges. Your work will focus on improving emotional wellbeing and building resilience through individual and group sessions, and will be delivered in collaboration with the Clinical Lead and Service Lead to design innovative, client‑focused approaches.
Role Purpose
Deliver therapeutic interventions to Children Looked After (CLA), working independently with occasional travel and lone working. Undertake professional initial assessments, provide one‑to‑one counselling, support professional consultations and develop group work. Maintain accurate, confidential case notes, link with other agencies for signposting, and manage risk positively with proactive response to child protection and safeguarding concerns.
Key Responsibilities
 * Deliver therapeutic interventions to CLA, working independently and occasionally in lone settings.
 * Conduct professional initial assessments of young people.
 * Provide counselling to CLA and support professional consultations.
 * Develop alternatives to one‑to‑one work, such as group sessions.
 * Maintain confidential case notes and records in a timely manner using the designated case management systems.
 * Develop links to other agencies and services and signpost appropriately.
 * Manage risk positively and respond proactively to child protection and safeguarding issues.
 * Communicate and engage with children, young people, parents/carers and professionals in an appropriate manner.
 * Work collaboratively as part of a supportive team committed to achieving positive outcomes for young people.
Professional Practice Expectations
 * Abide by the Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) or equivalent.
 * Maintain active membership with a national professional organisation (AFT, BACP, BPS, BABCP, HCPC, or UKCP).
 * Complete annual continuing professional development and associated procedures to maintain accreditation and registration.
 * Attend supervision at a minimum frequency of 1.5 hours per FTE per month with an appropriately qualified professional.
 * Comply with Information Governance, Health & Safety, Safeguarding, and Smoke‑Free policies.
Qualifications
 * 24 months post‑qualification counselling / psychotherapy experience.
 * Professional registration with a recognised national body (e.g. BACP/UKCP, HCPC).
 * Knowledge of development in CYP, family development, and transitions.
Experience
 * Experience working in a multi‑disciplinary team environment.
 * Experience managing a caseload.
 * Ability to assess and manage risks.
 * Ability to recognise and respond to concerns about child protection and safeguarding.
 * Ability to make use of supervision.
 * Up‑to‑date knowledge of CYP emotional wellbeing / early mental health evidence‑based practice and support for parents/carers.
Desirable
 * Experience in the CLA sector.
 * Experience in quality improvement measures.
 * Experience in pathway development.
 * Experience delivering training and workshops to CYP and parents/carers.
 * Experience delivering training to professionals.

Contract: Permanent
Pay: £25,000 to £29,000 a year (pro rata part‑time)
