Nuclear Restoration Services Limited (NRS) is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA). NRS is responsible for decommissioning first generation nuclear power stations Berkeley, Bradwell, Chapelcross, Dungeness A, Hinkley Point A, Hunterston A, Oldbury, Sizewell A, Trawsfynydd and Wylfa, and research sites Harwell and Winfrith. NRS is also responsible for electricity generation at hydroelectric plant Maentwrog. As a division of NRS, NRS Dounreay is responsible for the clean-up and demolition of the former centre of fast reactor research and development.

About The Role

General Operations Technician – BR107

"The Sizewell A Decommissioning Team are looking to recruit a General Operations Technician who is enthusiastic, highly driven and focused on safely delivering the decommissioning mission.

This is a General Operations Technician role, who will be required to be trained, gain decommissioning experience and integrate seamlessly into a highly skilled and experienced decommissioning team. The Operative will primarily be required to work within the Decommissioning Programme, primarily in the Ponds, but may need to support the Plant and Structures Programme when required.

It is a key decommissioning role to safely deliver the portfolio of decommissioning works."

Please note the working hours are 07.25 – 17.00, Monday to Thursday, perfect for someone looking for a four-day working week.

Key responsibilities:

Drive and deliver the decommissioning mission, as instructed by your Team Leader.
Maintain the standards required in personal, industrial, radiological, and nuclear safety procedures by ensuring compliance with Site and Control documentation.
Complies with the Health, Safety, Security, Environmental and Quality policies, procedures, work instructions and risk assessments. Support the continuous improvement of Health, Safety, Security, Environment and Quality on Site.
Actively support and encourage the use of Human Performance Error Prevention Tools.
Complete specialist training / hold authorisations for current and future decommissioning processes identified by the programme to maintain adequate SQEPness (Suitably Qualified and Experienced Persons) for decommissioning activities during the life cycle of the programme.
Gain authorisation for entry to radiologically controlled areas up to and including R4 (Radiological) / C4 (Classification) for decommissioning and compliance activities (must be able to wear a respirator).
Ensure you remain personally SQEP for the role by enrolling on requested Learning Management System (LMS) courses and attending mandatory training within agreed timescales. The training required includes but not limited to being a Classified Worker under the Ionising Radiation Regulations (IRRs), becoming a 'Competent Person' under the Electrical & Mechanical (E&M) Safety Rules and gaining/maintaining the Nuclear Occupational First Aid (NOFA) qualification and associated authorisation.
Always upholds Company values by putting safe delivery and environmental protection first; building trust by acting with integrity and respect for others; and ensuring that we promote and support innovation and efficiency to achieve successful delivery of the decommissioning mission.
Assist in the training and development of team members and be trained to be a member of the decommissioning rescue team.
Assist with maintaining decommissioning rigging store compliance, liaising with Lifting Operations Lifting Equipment Regulations (LOLER) insurance inspector and recording rigging equipment.

Qualifications:

Appropriate technical qualification e.g. City and Guilds, BTEC, NVQ (NQF Level 2) or relevant experience. (Essential)

Experience/Knowledge:

Experience of working in an industrial environment. (Essential)
Appreciation of Radioactive Substances Act (RSA) and Ionising Radiation Regulations (IRRs) requirements. (Desirable)
Plant Operations in areas assigned. (Desirable)
Experience of working in the Nuclear Industry. (Desirable)

Health and Safety:

There is a requirement to work on a decommissioning nuclear site in radiologically contaminated areas, up to C4 (Classification), R4 (Radiological) conditions, which requires Respiratory Protection Equipment (RPE) to be worn.

Flexible working – where possible.
The equivalent of 25 days (185 hours per year) annual leave plus Public Holidays (59.2 hours per year). This increases by 2 days (14.8 hours per year) annual leave after two full calendar years of service (as at 5th January in the leave year), and an additional 3 days (22.2 hours per year) annual leave after five full calendar years of service (as at 5th January in the leave year). You also have the option to buy or sell the equivalent of 5 days (37 hours) annual leave each year (available in specific windows for the following holiday year). For the purpose of assessing an employee's annual leave entitlement, a day means seven and two fifths (7.4) hours. A pro rata entitlement will apply for part time workers.
