Senior Manager, Equity Portfolio Management – Homes England National Housing Bank
Location: Hybrid 50/50. Headquarters in Leeds, with colleagues based in Leeds, Birmingham, Liverpool or Manchester.
Homes England is launching the National Housing Bank, a new government‑backed investment platform to accelerate housing delivery across England. With £16 bn in capital, it will unlock private investment, support regeneration and accelerate housing delivery across the UK. The role holder will be responsible for managing a portfolio of equity transactions for Homes England. The portfolio will contain 3 to 5 transactions, larger or more complex than typical for a senior portfolio manager. The post will report directly to the Head of Equity, JVs and Partnerships in Portfolio Management, with occasional peer reporting. Line management or coaching of other staff may also be required. The main objective is to deliver homes and funding in line with the risk appetite and annual budget of the agency.
Key responsibilities include:
* Ensure delivery of housing outputs and investment delivery/recovery in line with the credit approval and forecasts of each transaction and the annual budget.
* Develop strong and positive relationships with Investment Partners and the professional community and advisers.
* Manage the risk profile and performance of the transactions within the risk appetite of the agency and in line with the recovery rate of the programme; ensure all risk reporting is timely and of high quality.
* Identify deterioration in risk profile early, engage positively with customers to address and manage it professionally and in line with guidance, working with Risk and Distressed Investments.
* Maintain and report on key commercial/financial metrics such as NPVs, IRRs, dividend yields and portfolio composition; provide quality assurance and reporting as required.
* Critically assess business plans and financial models, providing suitable challenge to meet investment objectives and return criteria.
* Engage with senior management at board and governance committee level.
Candidate profile:
* Degree level qualification or equivalent experience in a professional industry such as banking, accounting, corporate finance or a related field.
* Strong experience in risk and client management of a portfolio of equity investments or loans in the real estate sector.
* Experience working with underperforming transactions.
* Ability to review and interrogate financial models, and understand core investor metrics including ROI, discounted cash flows, IRRs, income/dividend yields and funding structures.
* Strong organisational skills and ability to prioritise workload.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
