Financial Accountant Job Title: Financial Accountant (internal team member/ external service provider) Reporting To: Chief Executive Officer Location: International (Remote) About SMART Recovery SMART Recovery is a mutual-aid, strengths-based global program where trained facilitatorsoften peerslead group discussions to support individuals struggling with addictive behaviours. The program is practical, solution-focused, and grounded in evidence-based Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Motivational Interviewing (MI) tools that help people achieve their recovery goals. SMART Recovery International / SMART Recovery Global is a global charity whose mission is to maximise the worldwide impact of the SMART Recovery program. SMART Recovery International and SMART Recovery Global are currently merging into a single Australian-registered charity compliant with Australian Charities and Not-for-Profits Commission (ACNC) requirements. The Role Reporting directly to the CEO, this role (or external service provider) will act as the owner of all financial data across the organisation. You will be responsible for end-to-end financial managementfrom accounts payable/receivable to Board-level reporting. This role is ideal for a newly qualified or experienced Financial Accountant seeking a meaningful opportunity within an international charity. Key Relationships Reports to the CEO (SRG) Works closely with the Part-time Operations & Risk Manager, Administrator, and Global Training and Outreach Coordinator Collaborates with SMART Recovery Country Affiliates and their finance teams Engages with Board Members, Committees, volunteers, and pro bono contributors Liaises with external contractors, facilitators, participants, suppliers, and partner organisations as required Place of Work: Fully remote role. Terms Contractor relationship Agreed hourly rate, paid monthly (indicative rate £20-£40 per hour, dependent on experience) Ongoing engagement Hours of Work Up to 5 hours per week (flexible) Due to the international nature of the charity, some meetings will fall outside standard hours Main Responsibilities Working closely with the Board and the small internal team, the Financial Accountant will be responsible for delivering a wide range of day-to-day financial activities, including but not limited to: Reviewing financial statements (balance sheet, income statement, cash flow statement, and donor statements) and providing analysis to support organisational growth Managing accounts payable, accounts receivable, and revenue, including payment plans, revenue analysis, cash applications, deposits, reconciliations, and credit notes Managing month-end and year-end close processes, including balance sheet reconciliations and consolidation Managing contractor pay and acting as the internal point of contact for payroll queries Leading the planning, monitoring, and control of budgets and forecasts across the organisation, and preparing annual budgets for Board approval Partnering with the CEO and Board to manage costs through proactive financial reporting Preparing annual accounts and tax reporting in compliance with ACNC requirements Coordinating with external auditors to ensure regulatory compliance relating to data, processes, and procedures Role Expectations Uphold the vision, mission, and code of conduct of the charity Contribute to an inclusive environment where differences are valued and supported Work collaboratively across the international organisation in accordance with all charity policies Proactively identify opportunities for innovation and improvements in efficiency and effectiveness Attend team meetings as agreed Prepare quarterly Committee and Board Reports and associated presentations Attend Board and Finance/Audit/Risk (FAR) Committee meetings as required Prepare annual reporting in line with ACNC and Internal Revenue Service (IRS) requirements Competency Profile Essential Criteria Fully qualified ACA / ACCA / CIMA, or equivalent Advanced experience in Excel and Xero (or equivalent), and financial modelling Proven track record of delivering financial services aligned with the responsibilities above Demonstrated experience in business partnering across an organisation Strong relationship-building skills Excellent written and verbal communication skills Demonstrated experience improving financial systems or processes Ability to influence and collaborate with funders and suppliers Ability to work in compliance with ACNC and IRS requirements Ability to work autonomously, showing initiative Ability to prepare and present clear, effective reports to the CEO, Finance Committee, and Board Desirable Criteria Experience providing financial services to charities Experience working across different cultures in an international organisation Ability to commence at short notice How to apply: Submit maximum 3 page (A4) CV and maximum 2 page Personal Statement.
