Graduate Pre-Construction Management Trainee Programme
About This Role
As a Pre-Construction Management Trainee at Wates, you will work alongside our Pre-Con team to learn the commercial aspects of our industry. You will support the administrative processes for bidding on projects and gain exposure to all functions and teams across our business to help prepare and write successful bids, gaining experience of the entire project lifecycle.
What you will do
* Assist in identifying customers’ key requirements and concerns to enable the team to prepare winning bid strategies.
* Produce customer‑focused responses and strategies for bid submissions, tailoring each response to the specific needs of each customer.
* Build and manage a responsibility matrix for each bid over the pre‑construction phase to manage the team workload effectively.
* Maintain document control ensuring all documentation is up to date with relevant content such as case studies and evidence.
* Collaborate and engage with colleagues and networks to support information gathering and writing; constantly looking to build your expertise.

Eligibility criteria
* Be on track to graduate in 2026 or earlier with a degree in any discipline.
* Be working towards or have achieved a minimum 2:2 classification.
Leeds or Castle Donington: The successful trainee can choose either office as their base. Although a UK driving licence isn’t required at the application stage, both locations have limited public transport, so having one, or being willing to obtain one during the programme, would be beneficial.
Programme duration
This is a 2‑year graduate programme offering hands‑on experience, structured development, and placements across different teams.
