UCH Volunteer Services Manager

At UCLH volunteers are a key part of our team. Last year 751 people volunteered with us, and we usually have 400-500 active volunteers at any one time.

We are looking for an experienced volunteer manager to take on the post of UCH Volunteer Services Manager.

Reporting into the Trust Lead for Volunteers, the UCH Volunteer Services Manager has responsibility for managing volunteering with UCH sites including the Tower, Podium, Emergency Department, Grafton Way Building and Westmoreland Street. Other sites are covered by the Specialist Hospitals Volunteer Services Manager.

You will be an experienced volunteer manager with experience of developing new volunteer roles, inducting and supporting volunteers. Being a good multitasker with great time management will be key when managing a cohort of approx. 140-200 volunteers based in 34+ roles within 24+ teams.

With a can‑do attitude and excellent communication skills you will be able to easily build rapport with volunteers, staff and stakeholders in order to understand need and support services.

Main duties of the job

To co‑ordinate and further develop the volunteer service within UCH

To ensure that volunteer roles are effective

To work with staff teams to develop new volunteer roles

To support the induction of new volunteers and their ongoing training

To ensure that local supervisors manage volunteers effectively and that volunteers are supported and effective in their roles

To act as a key advocate and promoter of this service ensuring all relevant staff and patients are fully informed about the support that the service offers

Please note that to be longlisted for this post, you must be able to demonstrate how you are an experienced volunteer manager with diverse experiences of working with volunteers.

Person Specification


Knowledge & Qualifications

* Degree and/or an appropriate professional qualification or equivalent level of expertise/knowledge in volunteer management
* Knowledge of relevant legislation and policies relating to volunteering


Experience

* Significant proven experience of working with volunteers in an NHS or health related field
* Knowledge and experience of volunteer management including experience of recruiting and supporting volunteers
* Proven experience of success in service improvement and development in response to user group needs
* Experience of building and maintaining relationships with stakeholders across a complex organisation
* Experience of evaluating projects and services, making recommendations and change where necessary


Skills & Abilities

* High level of interpersonal skills and empathy with the ability to liaise with all levels of staff using various methods of communication
* Ability to develop awareness and understanding of the changing needs of patients and staff within the trust
* Ability to problem solve and make decisions with minimal support
* Ability to manage time efficiently and work independently, meeting deadlines


Communication

* Able to communicate complex, sensitive or contentious information accurately and effectively with staff, patients and at all levels of the organisations, verbally and in writing
* High level of effective oral and written communication skills
* Ability and confidence to present training to groups
