Our client is a leading National Contractor seeking an experienced professional to join the growing team, focusing on schemes from initial client concept through to completion.
This role is critical to continued project success, acting as the primary link between clients, external design teams, and internal project delivery and commercial teams. You will ensure designs are buildable, cost‑effective, and meet the client's brief and technical specifications.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
* Act as primary link between clients, external design teams, and internal project delivery and commercial teams.
* Ensure designs are buildable, cost‑effective, and meet the client's brief and technical specifications.
* Work predominantly through RIBA Stages 4 to 6 of the project lifecycle.
Design Management And Coordination
* Take ownership of the design process from the initial brief through to practical completion, primarily focusing on fit‑out schemes.
* Rigorous check and review drawings and specifications to ensure full coordination, statutory compliance, and buildability.
* Manage relationships with external design sources, ensuring timely delivery of high‑quality information.
* Serve as key communication channel between design team and internal construction/site teams to resolve queries efficiently.
Client And Commercial Focus
* Work closely with clients and their representatives to interpret the brief, manage expectations, and align final design with vision and operational needs.
* Collaborate with costing/commercial team to review design proposals, manage value engineering, and keep design within budget while maintaining quality.
* Proactively identify design, programme, and technical risks and implement mitigation strategies.
* Establish and maintain robust document control procedures for all design‑related information.
Desired Experience and Qualifications
* Proven experience as a Design Manager with a main contractor, focusing on fit‑out and refurbishment projects.
* Deep understanding of the RIBA Plan of Work, particularly Stages 4‑6.
* Excellent technical knowledge of construction methods, materials, and detailing for commercial interiors.
* Exceptional client‑facing and communication skills, able to manage complex relationships and present technical information clearly.
* Relevant qualification in Construction, Architecture, Engineering, or a related field.
