Mechanical Fitter Water Industry Nottingham and surrounding areas About the Role We are looking for an experienced Mechanical Fitter to join our clients delivery team working on water and wastewater infrastructure projects. The role focuses on the installation, assembly, and maintenance of large fabricated equipment such as scraper bridges, aerators, gravity thickeners, and access steelwork. This is a site-based position covering the Midlands and South of England, with regular overnight stays and regional travel required. Key Responsibilities Install, assemble, and commission heavy fabricated steel equipment for water and wastewater facilities. Work with structural steel and various types of pipework including stainless, mild, and ductile steel. Perform welding, cutting, grinding, and steel fixing tasks safely and accurately. Carry out upgrades, repairs, and refurbishment works on existing installations. Apply industry best practice to ensure installations are completed correctly the first time. Produce daily site reports and maintain health, safety, and environmental compliance. Collaborate with colleagues, clients, contractors, and suppliers to ensure smooth project delivery. Identify and suggest improvements to processes and installation practices. Requirements Engineering or similar qualification (City & Guilds, HNC, or equivalent preferred). Minimum 2 years' experience in mechanical fitting, steelwork assembly, or site mechanical works. Proven welding, steel fixing, and heavy fabrication skills. Experience with structural steel and rotating equipment installation is advantageous. Electrical awareness or related training is a plus. Experience within the water industry preferred, with knowledge of scraper bridge installation a benefit. Physically fit and capable of heavy installation activities. Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team. Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel regionally and nationwide
