Happy Days Nursery in Exeter is seeking a Kitchen Assistant, working 20 hours per week to join our friendly staff team.
What You Will Be Doing
* Work 20 hours per week Monday to Friday alongside our nursery cook.
* Ensure all meals are prepared in accordance with the weekly menus, catering for all children and providing alternatives for children with any special dietary needs where appropriate.
* Maintain essential record keeping and ensure food preparation complies with health regulations and guidelines, with monthly records kept up to date.
* Assist the cook in safely delivering meals to each nursery room, communicating allergies and dietary requirements, and keeping the kitchen and equipment clean and tidy, including washing up after each service.
* Support children’s participation in cooking activities as part of the “Let’s Cook” programme and work with the wider staff team.
* When the nursery cook is absent, take on cooking duties to ensure the smooth running of the day.
Who We’re Looking For
* Knowledge and understanding of healthy eating programmes for children and cooking healthy meals.
* A passion for offering children a varied and nutritious diet and a willingness to make a difference through this role.
* A strong, can‑do attitude and willingness to support the nursery team to achieve the best outcomes for children.
* Kitchen assistant and/or cooking experience in a nursery or school environment is desired but not essential, as training can be provided.
* An awareness of dietary requirements is advantageous; full training will be provided along with a free Food Hygiene certificate if the candidate does not already have one.
