The Role:
* Provide one-to-one and small group support to pupils with SEMH and associated needs
* Build consistent, trusting relationships with students who may display challenging behaviour
* Support teaching staff in delivering personalised and therapeutic learning plans
* Help manage behaviour calmly and constructively, using de-escalation and positive reinforcement strategies
* Encourage pupils to develop self-confidence, independence, and positive coping mechanisms
* Contribute to a safe, structured, and emotionally supportive school environment
The ideal Special Needs Teaching Assistant will have:
* Experience supporting children or young people with SEMH, autism, ADHD, or behavioural difficulties
* A calm, non-judgmental approach and the emotional resilience to work with pupils facing complex challenges
* Excellent communication and teamwork skills
* The ability to model appropriate behaviour and set clear boundaries
* A commitment to inclusion, equality, and trauma-informed practice
* Qualifications such as Team Teach, MAPA, or a psychology/education-related degree (desirable but not essential)
