We’re excited to launch a new Wastewater Screens and Sewage Pumping Station Preventative Maintenance Team at Northumbrian Water, and we’re looking for skilled Mechanical Technicians to be part of this forward-thinking initiative.
Based from our Seaham, County Durham facility, you’ll play a vital role in maintaining and improving the performance of our assets across the North East.
This is a unique opportunity to join a newly formed team focused on proactive maintenance, fault diagnosis, and condition-based servicing of Screens and SPS assets. You’ll help reduce downtime and improve plant availability, making a real impact on operational reliability.
What Makes This Role Different?
 1. No Regular Standby Rota: This role is not part of the standard out-of-hours standby rota. However, we value flexibility and welcome individuals who are willing to support in exceptional circumstances
 2. Mobile Role - You’ll be equipped with a company van and tools, with the flexibility to start and end your day from home when work demands allow
 3. Specialist Development: Once qualified, you’ll have the opportunity to complete up to three additional technical modules, each rewarded with a £1,500 payment - a great way to deepen your expertise and boost your earnings. There is an expectation that you can achieve a minimum of 2 modules within 3 years
 4. Diverse Equipment Exposure: Our wide range of assets offers a unique chance to specialise in areas such as condition-based maintenance and preventative diagnostics
About you
You will be a time served Mechanical Technician educated to at least ONC/NVQ level 3 or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering. You will have a maintenance background in reactive breakdowns and planned work, and you will manage your time efficiently with minimal supervision. You will be experienced in reading and finding faults from Mechanical drawings, identify the source and replacing faulty components.
We are looking for candidates with a can-do attitude, willingness to learn and explore new ways of working. A hands-on practical approach and keen eye for identifying the route cause whilst investigating problems and implementing solutions is essential as it is a large part of this role.
You’ll have excellent communication skills and be a team player with. A strong Health and Safety ethic is an important part of our Everybody Home Safe Everyday culture.
A full, UK driving license is essential for this role.

This is a safety or security critical role and as a condition of a formal offer of employment you’ll be required to undergo a drug and alcohol test after the job offer has been made. This will be prior to or within four weeks of their start date.
