We’re seeking a driven and accountable Section Manager to lead our low-volume machine shop operation on day shift, holding overall responsibility for production performance across all three shifts.
Reporting to the Senior Production Manager, you’ll take direct leadership responsibility for the Production Supervisors and drive productivity, operational consistency, quality standards and people performance throughout the department.
Low Volume Production is a fast-paced, engineering-led machining environment responsible for delivering low-volume and bespoke components across a wide range of products.
The department plays a key role in supporting new product introduction and specialist manufacturing requirements, combining process development, CNC machining, and problem-solving capability to deliver high-quality parts with short lead times.
You’ll be joining a supportive and ambitious manufacturing environment where you’ll benefit from ongoing training and leadership development, with the opportunity to shape and improve a growing production operation.
Key Responsibilities

2. Leading, coaching and developing Production Supervisors, ensuring consistent leadership standards, accountability and high performance
3. Monitoring and improving key operational KPIs (e.g. performance, efficiency, downtime, delivery, credits to stock), taking proactive action to address issues
4. Driving cost efficiency through productivity improvement, waste reduction and effective resource utilisation (including cost per credit hour)
5. Ensuring communication and alignment across shifts to maintain operational continuity and performance ownership
6. Maintaining oversight of quality standards, resolving production issues quickly while balancing delivery and product quality expectations
7. Collaborating and influencing stakeholders to resolve shortages and ensure consistent application of quality standards effectively across manufacturing
8. Supporting a culture of ownership, urgency, collaboration and continuous improvement
9. Providing regular performance updates and reporting to the Senior Production Manager
10. Ensuring high standards of health, safety and housekeeping are maintained
Key requirements
11. Previous demonstrable leadership experience within a machine shop, engineering or manufacturing environment, managing supervisors and/or multiple production teams
12. Operationally and commercially aware, with the ability to drive productivity through data analysis while maintaining quality and delivery performance
13. Decision-maker by nature who can solve problems independently and take ownership of issues
14. Effective collaborator, able to work cross-functionally to resolve operational and quality challenges quickly
15. Credible and influential communicator, able to challenge constructively and drive consistent standards
16. Demonstrates strong people leadership, including performance management, talent development and succession planning (e.g. 9 Box frameworks)
17. Promotes alignment and accountability across shifts through clear communication and organisation
18. Resilient and composed under pressure, demonstrating sound judgement
19. Clear potential to progress into a senior operational leadership role, supporting a culture of accountability, urgency and continuous improvement
Desirable requirements
