Location: We are currently looking to recruit Mechanical Fitters to work across the Yorkshire region in our Service Centre within our Asset Maintenance Business Unit area here at Yorkshire Water and be a part of helping Yorkshire Water to provide the best service to our customers. As a Mechanical Fitter, you will be responsible for the repair and maintenance of Yorkshire Waters mechanical assets across wastewater treatment facilities and clean water pumping sites. Working in a mobile capacity as part of the Service Centre Asset Maintenance team, you will deliver both planned and reactive maintenance activities.
You will play a key role in improving asset reliability by carrying out accurate fault diagnosis and high-quality mechanical fitting, with a strong focus on pump repair and maintenance. Your contribution will support the safe and efficient operation of plant and pumping equipment, ensuring consistent performance across multiple sites.
Where you fit in!
We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Fitter to work across remote locations, delivering planned and reactive mechanical tasks to agreed timescales, quality and cost standards. The role involves diagnosing faults and carrying out repairs, servicing, strip-downs, rebuilds and testing of diesel and industrial pumps, as well as installing pumps, pipework and associated equipment on customer sites. You will assess equipment to determine on-site repair or return to workshop, support pre- and post-hire checks, and assist with temporary plant installations. Working closely with the Service Centre Coordinator, you will prioritise workloads and build strong relationships with customers, suppliers and internal teams.
The role also requires strict adherence to health and safety standards, completion of risk assessments and use of digital tools to track work. Additional responsibilities include supporting team development, identifying improvements, specifying parts for procurement, and assisting with installation and commissioning of new equipment.
What skills, experience & qualifications you will need:
It is essential that you hold a recognised Level 3 Mechanical Engineering apprenticeship, along with a qualification such as City & Guilds, ONC, BTEC, NVQ, HNC, HND, or an equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or Engineering Technology.
You will be required to visit sites across the Yorkshire Region therefore a full valid driving licence (with no more than six points) is an essential requirement of this role.
Experience within the water and wastewater industry, including diesel pump systems. Proven capability in servicing, maintenance, and repair in line with industry best practices.
It is desirable that you hold the following qualifications:
HNC in a Mechanical discipline.
CompEx 11.
It is a mandatory requirement that you can demonstrate experience and knowledge in:
Safe isolation to the current IET regulations.
Time served industrial mechanical fitter.
Working with rotating equipment.
Ability to produce maintenance reports.
Fault finding on mechanical systems.
It is desirable that you can demonstrate experience and knowledge in:
Maintaining and repairing centrifugal, positive displacement, RAM, progressive cavity, diaphragm, peristaltic pumps.
With gearboxes.
With compressors.
Maintaining equipment in accordance with PSSR.
With blowers.
Working with steam systems.
Working with chemical plant.
With hot work/ fabrication and welding.
Operating lifting equipment and slinging.
Pneumatics and hydraulics.
Ideally, you will have previous experience gained as a Field Mechanical Fitter within the water or wastewater sectors or within the broader utilities, process, or manufacturing industry sectors. Experience within a mechanical based environment or site-based fault diagnosis and repair on complex processes and equipment.
As part of this role, you will be required to work within confined spaces, any successful candidate must pass strict medical criteria including, BMI, vision, blood pressure, hearing, and Spirometry tests to ensure your full safety when working in hazardous environments.
