Within the Department of Psychological Medicine, the Centre for Affective Disorders (CfAD) is world-renowned centre of excellence committed to pioneering research and innovative treatment approaches for mood disorders, such as depression and bipolar disorder. The Centre brings together world-leading clinician scientists, including Professors Anthony Cleare, Roland Zahn, Carmine Pariante, and Allan Young.
About the role
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced clinician with a specific interest in affective disorders to join the Centre for Affective Disorders (CfAD). This Clinical Research Associate post will be part of the Mental Health Translational Research Collaboration (MH-TRC) Mission Mood Disorders workstream at KCL.
The postholder will be primarily responsible for the clinical management of research participants across a range of commercial and non-commercial clinical trials and will also perform other trial management and research activities as outlined in the job description.
The postholder will be supervised by Dr Rebecca Garvey and will work closely with Professor Allan Young and Professor Anthony Cleare. They will also work closely with research assistants and other members of CfAD.
This is a full-time post (40 hours per week), and you will be offered an a fixed term contract until 31st October 2026.
About you
To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:
Essential criteria
1. Full GMC registration with a valid license to practice
2. Postgraduate experience in psychiatry, ideally with exposure to mood disorders
3. Experience in managing patients within research or clinical trial settings, including obtaining informed consent and administering diagnostic instruments and outcome measures
4. Scientific publications relevant to psychiatry, mental health, or clinical trials
5. Strong organisational, with the ability to manage competing deadlines
6. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including ability to engage effectively with patients, clinicians, researchers and other multi-disciplinary teams
Desirable criteria
1. Familiarity with KCL/SLaM systems and research infrastructure in the UK
2. Demonstrable interest in and knowledge of affective disorder research
3. Experience of data analysis using statistical software
4. Knowledge of Good Clinical Practice (GCP), research governance, and relevant ethical/regulatory frameworks
