Learning Support Assistant Location: Ware, Hertfordshire Hours: Full / Part time considered Start date: ASAP or from September About the School We are a mixed special secondary school for students aged 11-16. All pupils have Education, Health & Care Plans (EHCPs). We support young people with a range of needs including Learning Difficulties, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN), global developmental delay, Down's Syndrome, and some rare specific diagnoses. We are designated as a school specialising in Learning Difficulty, ASD and SLCN. Key Responsibilities Support individual pupils or small groups in accessing the curriculum under the guidance of teaching staff and SENCO. Assist with implementing personalised learning plans / intervention programmes. Help with the development of communication, language, social interaction and independence skills. Support pupils with behaviour management, ensuring safe and positive learning environments. Assist with classroom organisation: preparing resources, supporting transitions, and ensuring the learning environment is inclusive. Monitor and record pupil progress, feeding back to teachers and the SENCO. Experience & Skills Required Previous experience working with children / young people with SEN, especially with ASD, SLCN, and learning difficulties. Good understanding of strategies to support communication, social skills, emotional regulation, behaviour management. Patience, empathy, resilience, and strong interpersonal skills. Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team (teachers, therapists, support staff). Good organisational skills and flexibility. Basic literacy/numeracy skills; ideally some training or willingness to undertake training relevant to SEN.
