Ob Summary

We are seeking a compassionate and dependable Support Worker to join our Ofsted-registered supported accommodation for young people aged 16–21, including care leavers and vulnerable young mothers. You will provide structured daily support that builds independent living skills, promotes emotional wellbeing, and safeguards every young person—helping them move towards stable, confident, and independent adulthood.

Responsibilities

* Deliver high-quality, person-centred care and keywork support in line with each young person's support plan.
* Coach and motivate young people to develop core independence skills, including:
* Cooking and food hygiene
* Budgeting and managing money
* Shopping, personal organisation, and time-keeping
* Cleaning and maintaining their living space
* Support engagement in Education, Employment or Training (EET): liaise with colleges/employers, encourage attendance, and assist with applications.
* Promote positive routines and wellbeing; support attendance at health appointments (GP, dentist, optician, etc.).
* Build trusting, professional relationships as a consistent adult role model while maintaining clear boundaries.
* Complete keywork sessions, life-skills assessments, goal-setting and reviews.
* Keep accurate, timely records: daily logs, incident forms, risk assessments, and monthly progress reports for the local authority.
* Identify and escalate safeguarding concerns in line with policy and statutory guidance.
* Carry out and record H&S checks, fire drills, room inspections and hygiene checks.
* Assist with housing and move-on planning; attend statutory meetings and reviews (e.g., LAC reviews, strategy meetings).
* Provide practical and emotional support; encourage participation in positive and community activities.
* Contribute to household tasks (e.g., cleaning communal areas, preparing meals).
* Follow all policies and procedures, including GDPR, safeguarding, confidentiality, medication, and professional boundaries.

Essential Requirements

Qualifications & Education

* GCSEs (or equivalent) in Maths & English at Grade C/4 or above (required for Ofsted compliance).
* Commitment to complete a Level 3 Diploma in Health & Social Care or Children & Young People's Workforce within 12 months.

Experience

* Minimum 1 year working with vulnerable young people aged 16–21 (e.g., care leavers, semi-independent/EET or similar).
* Sound understanding of safeguarding, risk assessment, and care/support planning.

Skills & Attributes

* Clear, confident verbal and written communication (reports/logs).
* Ability to build positive, professional relationships with young people.
* Strong organisation and time-management; able to lone-work and make sound decisions.
* Calm, patient and empathetic under pressure; solution-focused.
* Confident using IT (Word, email, digital recording systems).

Other

* Willing and able to work a rota including evenings, weekends and sleep-ins.
* Reliable travel to and from work.

Desirable

* Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
* Level 3 Diploma in Health & Social Care (Children & Young People).
* Mental Health First Aid and/or Trauma-Informed practice.
* Experience with care leavers, UASC, or young parents.
* Food Hygiene, Fire Safety and First Aid training.
* Knowledge of Ofsted expectations (e.g., Reg 44 visits; Reg 9 and 35/45 reporting).
