MacConvilles is a long‑established, award‑winning multidisciplinary consultancy working across London and the South East. Known for delivering outstanding results with a genuinely personal touch, we support clients across sectors including healthcare, education, heritage, commercial, residential, science and the arts.
As part of our continued growth, we’re looking for an experienced Senior Building Surveyor to join our Brighton office. This is a key role for someone who not only brings strong technical capability but also has a real passion for dilapidations and an interest in helping shape and expand this service within the consultancy.
If you’re driven, client‑focused and excited by the idea of contributing to a forward‑thinking, close‑knit team — we’d love to hear from you.
The Opportunity
As a Senior Building Surveyor, you’ll play a central role in supporting the Directors and contributing to the smooth running of the business. You’ll be involved in an exceptionally varied range of instructions — from detailed technical reporting to project delivery — while also helping to drive the development of our dilapidations offering.
Your work will involve:
* Acting as a trusted point of contact for clients
* Delivering high‑quality work in line with ISO accreditations and BS76000
* Managing complex projects proactively and independently
* Preparing pathology reports, due diligence surveys, schedules of condition, and planned maintenance reports
* Leading on dilapidations instructions, including preparation and negotiation
* Managing project works as Lead Consultant, Project Manager, Contract Administrator or Employer’s Agent
* Supporting Party Wall matters in accordance with the Party Wall etc. Act 1996
* Preparing working drawings, specifications and schedules of work
* Undertaking defects diagnosis, asset condition assessments, and quality monitoring
* Managing fee income for your projects, preparing monthly invoices, and supporting financial performance
You’ll also play an active role in team development — helping manage, guide and grow junior staff and contributing to the continuous improvement of our Surveying service.
What We’re Looking For
You’ll be an enthusiastic, proactive individual with:
* A degree in Building Surveying or related discipline
* MRICS (or membership of another relevant professional body)
* Strong technical expertise and confidence delivering complex projects
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
* The ability to build long‑term client relationships
* A collaborative, flexible and engaging approach
* A commitment to acting honestly, respectfully and professionally
* Ambition — both for your own development and for the growth of the team
We’re looking for someone who takes pride in the quality of their work, enjoys a varied workload, and thrives in an environment where autonomy and responsibility are balanced with support and collaboration.
Why Join MacConvilles?
We offer the best of both worlds: a genuinely friendly, supportive team culture and the scale of projects that keep every day interesting. You’ll be empowered to make decisions, trusted to deliver independently, and encouraged to develop your skills and leadership capability.
In return, we offer:
* Contributory pension
* Support for ongoing CPD and professional accreditation
* Hybrid working to help balance work and life
* Opportunities to influence the development of services — including our growing dilapidations offering
* 22 days plus bank holidays plus 2 days gifted by MacConvilles for Christmas
We’re proud to foster a culture that values transparency, collaboration and long‑term thinking. MacConvilles is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
What Success Looks Like
Following your probation, you’ll be measured on:
* Client satisfaction and repeat business
* Developing new leads and contributing to fee growth
* Reviewing and improving the profitability and delivery of your projects
This role offers real scope to shape your future, grow your team, and make a meaningful contribution to the direction of the consultancy.
