Westmorland and Furness Council's Highways and Transport service seeks an experienced, motivated, and friendly Highway Network Engineer. This role offers an excellent career opportunity for candidates with highways, transportation, and construction backgrounds eager to join a large and thriving organization.
The successful candidate will assist in leading the South Lakes Area Highways team, managing, designing, and processing highway improvement and maintenance projects. Responsibilities include surveys, design, specification, and data collection and input.
Strong communication skills are essential, as you will provide technical advice and guidance on specifications, standards, legislation, regulation, policy, and principles related to highways design and maintenance. You will also advise internal and external customers of the Council.
This role is ideal for those with significant experience in highway, transportation, or construction design, and a good understanding of local government and customer interaction. Knowledge of construction contracts, highway maintenance, and national design standards is required. The ability to work under pressure, be an effective team member, and manage budgets effectively are also important. Experience with Winter Maintenance is desirable, as this role supports winter activities.
