Job Summary
An exciting opportunity to work within the Lung Clinical Nurse Specialist Team, supporting the newly created post‑surgical Nurse‑Led Follow‑Up Programme. Responsibilities include accepting referrals, maintaining a database, supporting patients by telephone, reviewing imaging reports, and coordinating follow‑up with consultant surgeons. The role also involves developing patient groups for lung cancer survivors, data collection, audit, patient satisfaction surveys, and education of staff and patients.
Responsibilities
* Lead specialist in site‑specific lung cancer management, liaising across divisional and organisational boundaries.
* Coordinate and organise individual treatment programmes for patients throughout the disease trajectory.
* Provide consultancy to junior CNS and other professionals on specialist cancer nursing advice.
* Carry a caseload of approximately 100 new patients per annum, undertaking advanced nursing assessment and complex needs support.
* Act as teacher, advisor, and support resource for patients, carers, and health‑care professionals.
* Lead service development, advise on audit and research projects, and develop educational packages.
* Support the multi‑disciplinary team in tracking patients across the pathway and meeting Cancer Waiting Time targets.
* Deliver the post‑surgical Nurse‑Led Follow‑Up Programme: accept referrals, maintain database, contact patients pre‑CT, review reports with consultant surgeons, relay results, and request next surveillance CT.
* Develop patient group for lung cancer survivors to provide education and support.
Qualifications
* Registered General Nurse.
* First‑level degree in a related subject or equivalent experience.
* Post‑basic qualification in cancer/palliative care or proven evidence of working towards it within the first year.
Essential Skills and Experience
* Continuous personal and professional development evidence.
* Significant post‑registration experience in cancer, palliative care or relevant specialty.
* Ability to support and influence change.
* IT literate.
Desirable Skills and Experience
* Audit and research leadership and management experience.
* Research qualification.
* Leadership and motivational skills.
