Mechanical Fitter Engineer Overview
My client is looking for a Mechanical Fitter with experience working on Special Purpose Machinery (SPM). The role involves assembling, installing, testing, and maintaining PLC-controlled machines that use pneumatic and hydraulic systems. The ideal candidate will have strong mechanical skills, be able to read engineering drawings, and have experience working with automated machinery.
The Mechanical Fitter Engineer role will involve:
• Assemble special purpose machinery using engineering drawings and technical instructions.
• Install and align mechanical components and machine parts.
• Assist with the setup and commissioning of PLC-controlled machines.
• Install and test pneumatic and hydraulic systems such as cylinders, valves, and regulators.
• Support machine builds, troubleshooting, and fault-finding during assembly.
• Help carry out testing before machines are delivered to customers.
• Perform maintenance, upgrades, and modifications to machinery when needed.
The Mechanical Fitter will need to have the following attributes:
• Experience working as a Mechanical Fitter or Machine Builder, ideally with special purpose or automated machinery.
• Good understanding of pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
• Experience working with PLC-controlled machines.
• Ability to read and understand engineering drawings and assembly instructions.
• Knowledge of common mechanical components such as bearings, gearboxes, drives, sensors, and actuators.
• Good fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
• Apprenticeship or qualification in Mechanical Engineering or Engineering Maintenance.
