Main Purposes of the Role:
Main Purposes of the Role:
1. To support the Science department with their responsibility for the development and education of children at Holmleigh Park High School. To provide technician support for the Science department.
Duties and Responsibilities
2. Prepare and assemble apparatus, equipment and chemicals as required in preparation for practical lessons.
3. To assist colleagues in the delivery of practical support to engage students with their Science learning.
4. Keeping up to date with current procedures and practices through continuing professional development
5. To provide general assistance in the safe storage, transit and accessibility of resources
6. To support the team-leader / senior technician in ensuring the availability of suitable materials and equipment, helping to compile orders and liaising or negotiating with suppliers and This will include sourcing, costing and suggesting economic alternatives to maintain stock levels.
7. Keeping up-to-date stock record
8. the safe treatment & disposal of used materials including hazardous substances and responding to actual or potential hazards so that laboratories are ready for re-use
9. Carry out minor repairs and modifications to equipment when necessary in order that all equipment is safe to use in line with Health and Safety Policy.
10. To liaise with colleagues to contribute to Science planning and the development of resources.
11. To work as part of a team to ensure that the wellbeing, behaviour, and personal development of students enhances their learning opportunities and life skills.
12. To contribute to the life of the school community according to your talents and skills.
13. To participate in arrangements made for the supervision and safety of students between lessons and at the start and end of the school day.
14. Provide a safe and clean environment for staff and pupils by ensuring that any scientific debris or hazardous materials or spills are removed in accordance with Health and Safety

Safeguarding Statement
Holmleigh Park High School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children in line with the DfE guidelines “Safeguarding Children: Safer Recruitment and Selection in Education Settings”. The school will adhere to the following guidelines:
1.All new staff will be subject to a criminal background check through the Disclosure & Barring Service. This will be an enhanced check for those whose duties include caring for, training or supervising children.
2.All posts at Holmleigh Park High School require an acceptance of the responsibility to safeguard and promote the welfare of children. 3.The selection procedure for all posts will include a consideration of the applicant’s suitability to work with children as well as the post.
4.All applicants must submit a signed application form. This is taken as verification that all statements are true and that the applicant is not in any way disqualified from working with children eg on List 99.
5.Posts at Holmleigh Park High School are exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act of 1974, and if necessary a declaration must be made on the application form.
6.The school will seek references on all short listed candidates prior to interview, and may approach previous employers for information to verify experience or qualifications prior to interviews.
7.Referees should be someone who has had a working or professional relationship with the candidate, and should not be a friend or relative. 8.Referees will be asked about disciplinary offences relating to children including any in which the penalty is time expired, and whether the applicant has been the subject of any child protection concerns and the outcome of that procedure.
