Our National Innovation & Capital Tax Reliefs Team works with a range of companies, from start-ups to multinationals, to assist them in the preparation of claims for Research & Development tax relief. We work with companies across sectors like manufacturing, engineering, life sciences, software, and digital technologies to identify and prepare successful tax relief claims. The variety of projects and our impressive client list will challenge you daily, helping you grow professionally.
This is an exciting opportunity for an Innovation Reliefs Associate Director to join our actively growing, specialist Innovation Reliefs tax team at RSM. This role can be based in any of our Southern region offices (Bristol, Gatwick, Guildford, Reading, or Southampton).
You will make an impact by:
1. Developing claim methodologies and managing the preparation of R&D tax relief claims for submission to HMRC.
2. Leading interviews with clients’ technical and finance teams to advise on R&D tax relief and assist with identifying qualifying activities and expenditure.
3. Demonstrating expertise in writing technical descriptions of client projects for reports.
4. Identifying, leading, and progressing business development opportunities, including pitching for new and existing clients.

* Experience in preparing and submitting R&D tax relief claims across sectors (patent box claims experience is a plus but not essential).
* Strong UK R&D tax incentives technical knowledge.
* Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
* Clear, concise technical writing skills.
* Experience making claims within SME and RDEC regimes, with group size assessment capabilities.
