Job title: NewsWise for Libraries workshop facilitator Contract type: Casual worker, January 2026 - August 2027 Location: Devon and Torbay (or ability to travel to and around Devon and Torbay) Rate: £305 per day / £152.50 per half day Hours: We are looking to recruit a casual worker based in the Devon area who can provide workshop facilitation and training for librarians in libraries across the region. Workshop and training delivery will begin in January 2026, and run until the end of August 2026. We are expecting the project funding to be renewed for a second year, from August 2026 - August 2027. The anticipated number of shifts is 5 - 10 across this project period, with the majority of these shifts happening in year 1 of the project (January - August 2026). Shifts will be a mixture of full and half days. The majority of shifts will take place during the school holidays and occasionally on weekends. Please note that this is a guide to the likely number of shifts. As this is casual employment, we cannot guarantee shifts. This role will be part of our train-the-trainer project in libraries across Devon and Torbay, in partnership with Libraries Unlimited. We will be equipping librarians to run interactive news and media literacy workshops for children aged 7-11 and their families in libraries across the region. The role will involve facilitating workshops for children as well as training for librarians. The Guardian Foundation is committed to safeguarding the children and adults at risk with whom it works. About the role: This is a crucial role delivering the Guardian Foundation’s news and media literacy programme as directed to the highest standards. The role includes: Facilitate librarian training sessions Deliver and co-deliver media literacy workshops in libraries in the region Attend initial training and shadowing sessions Support programme evaluation through the collection of feedback surveys Assist with internal and external reporting by providing project updates Maintain accurate records and communicate regularly with the project team Represent The Guardian Foundation professionally, aligning with its values and mission We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced workshop and training facilitator to deliver high-quality and engaging workshops that develop critical media literacy and news reporting skills of young people aged 7-11. You will support us to deliver our train-the-trainer programme for librarians in the region. You will deliver our two-part training for librarians; a training session to outline the workshop’s activities and equip them with the news and media literacy knowledge to confidently facilitate workshops themselves and a co-delivered workshop. On occasion, you may also be required to facilitate workshops independently. Travel within the area is required. Ideal candidate will be community-focused, with an understanding of local challenges, librarians and their setting. You will be confident in training adults and delivering workshops to children. Full training will be provided before you begin delivering training sessions and workshops. You will be passionate about inspiring young people, and the adults working with them, about news and supporting them to develop critical media literacy skills. This role is ideal for freelance facilitators or educators looking to broaden their experience. Applicants must have at least demonstrated experience teaching or facilitating workshops with the relevant age group, as well as experience of delivering training sessions to adults.
