System Development Engineer, Core Network
System Development Engineer for AWS Core Network. You will help deploy, manage, fix and reinvent the software tools, services and components that network engineering rely on to automate our network and keep it operational. You will actively be involved in innovating new software solutions to solve the challenges of operating the AWS network. Your internal customers are network engineer colleagues, and through close collaboration, support and exchange of ideas, we share a common goal to serve external customers and grow through learning and innovation.

What You’ll Be Working On
* Identifying and solving challenging systems, process and tooling issues to improve the experience for customers
* Designing and implementing entire new software components, products or services which improve operational efficiency
* Investigating technical issues thoroughly, performing root cause analysis, updating procedures and systems, and implementing long-term fixes to avoid repeat issues
* Providing solutions to technically challenging real business problems in a global organization
Key responsibilities
A SysDE is responsible for maintaining and improving their team's services end-to-end, troubleshooting and identifying root causes within their systems. They design and implement testing, monitoring, and validation improvements across services, tools, and infrastructure to enable continuous deployment with minimal interruption. A SysDE proactively identifies areas to invent, refine, and develop automation and tools to reduce manual operations, balancing current and future business and customer needs.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications
* Relevant experience in software development, systems engineering, SRE or DevOps roles
* Knowledge of software engineering best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control, build processes, testing, and operations
* Practical understanding of network fundamentals (DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP, routing, switching, HTTP)
* Knowledge of systems engineering fundamentals (host networking, storage, Unix-like operating systems)
* Demonstrable experience programming in at least one modern language such as Python, C++, C#, Java, Go, Ruby
Preferred Qualifications
* Experience with Python
* Experience designing, developing or operating cloud services running on AWS or another cloud platform
