80809 - Senior Electrical Design Engineer
This role reports to the Design Lead within Engineering Design - Capital Programme, based in Maidstone or Crawley. It is a permanent position with a salary of £80,574, plus car allowance and a 3% bonus. After a 6-month probation, blended working (3 days in-office, 2 remote) is available.

Job Purpose:
Produce and assure high-quality electrical designs within scope, meeting UK Power Networks standards, for both contestable and non-contestable works. Collaborate within diverse teams to deliver technical excellence.
Principal Accountabilities:
* Create compliant electrical designs and review others’ designs.
* Ensure designs meet industry standards and regulations.
* Contribute to procurement documents.
* Ensure legal and procedural compliance.
* Follow design assurance and audit processes.
* Develop concepts and detailed designs within deadlines.
* Provide excellent customer service.
* Work collaboratively within diverse teams.
* Coordinate with operational teams from enquiry to energisation.
* Comply with CDM regulations and eliminate hazards.
* Mentor team members to enhance skills.
Qualifications:
* Electrical engineering background with experience in power system and protection design at various voltages.
* Knowledge of design standards, processes, and operational aspects.
* Experience working with external organizations and clients.
* Ability to approve designs in specific areas.
* Strong safety culture and understanding of CDM regulations.
* Ability to work independently, set targets, and identify cost savings.
* Good team skills and awareness of business and regulatory context.
* Project management proficiency.
* Proficiency with MS Office, AutoCAD or MicroStation.
* Knowledge of distribution plant, cables, overhead lines, and current technological developments.
* Degree in engineering or science; Chartered Engineer or working towards it.
Dimensions:
Site visits to operational substations, with compliance to safety protocols.
