Gosport, Hampshire, PO12 2AQ Due to the hands-on nature of this role, you will be required to work onsite full-time. Job Summary The Ministry of Defence employs over 50,000 Civil Servants. Within that, with responsibility for an annual budget of over £10bn, the Army is a major part of the Ministry of Defence and one of its largest operating centres who employ around 12,000 Civil Servants located at over 300 locations supporting the 110K regular and reserve soldiers across the Army. We, at the Joint Services Adventurous Sail Training Centre, deliver offshore sailing Adventurous Training to the Army, Royal Navy and Royal Air Force in order to develop important leadership and resilience in service personnel. We deliver the full range of shore and water-based training courses from the Royal Yachting Association to over 4500 service personnel each year. In addition, we enable military areas to plan, manage and deliver their own sailing training through provision and support to Continuation Training in the UK and worldwide. Army Adventurous Training Group is required to deliver Leadership and Resilience Training to the Royal Navy, Army and Royal Air Force. This is enabled through the following 10 activities: Sub Aqua Diving, Offshore Sailing, Parachuting, Paragliding, Gliding, Mountaineering, Caving, Kayaking, Canoeing, and Skiing. You will enjoy the benefits of excellent on-site facilities and resources, delivering exciting on water and shore based training to an enthusiastic, engaged and committed training audience, mainly junior service personnel at the beginning of their military careers. The work can be physically demanding on occasion, so a reasonable level of fitness and agility is required, but adaptions can be made to suit an individual’s needs. Key Responsibilities: Carrying out a variety of basic marine engineering support tasks associated with yachts allocated to JSASTC as directed by the Engineering Facilities Manager. Operating as part of the engineering team working directly with the Marine Fitters, Electricians, and Shipwrights to provide support with the maintenance and engineering repair of the MOD training yachts. Routine cleaning, painting, and basic repairs. Assisting in yacht lifting. Operation of hand tools and equipment following training. Assisting the engineering team. Procurement of cleaning and engineering stores. Maintaining a clean and safe working environment within the engineering environment. Person specification Essential Skills Required: Good timekeeping, a willingness to learn, and enthusiasm. There may be a requirement for foreign travel, so you must have a valid and in date passport. The work is physically demanding on occasion, so a reasonable level of fitness and agility is required. Adaptions can be made to suit individual’s needs. Desirable Skills: Experience of previous related work is preferred, but not essential.
