About This Opportunity
We now have a vacancy for a Quality Engineer, based at Peterborough (UK). The role reports to the Plant Quality Manager.
Your mission in Crown
1. Coordinate plant activities to meet customer needs and improve performance regarding product quality, cost effectiveness, and delivery performance.
2. Ensure all critical process control parameters are within specifications and that appropriate actions are taken to deliver a quality finished product to the customer.
3. Identify high-risk activities, events, and trends proactively, working with the Cans manufacturing team and independently based on data and information.
4. Serve as a central reference point for ongoing quality issues related to customers or the plant.
Customer Interface
1. Ensure compliance with customer product requirements and purchased materials.
2. Coordinate and follow up on customer and supplier audits.
3. Monitor and ensure the quality of incoming raw materials.
4. Manage customer complaints and implement preventative measures.
Quality Systems and Technology
1. Support SPC & NWA implementation by identifying process variability and applying suitable statistical techniques; review and agree on actions with production and engineering teams.
2. Support ESE implementation according to Crown standards during maintenance, changeovers, and interventions.
Process Control
1. Identify variances from critical specifications and coordinate appropriate actions with production and engineering teams.
2. Evaluate line conditions and performance to identify potential issues affecting quality, production, or increasing spoilage.
3. Provide guidance and data to facilitate continuous improvement.
4. Ensure compliance with the Quality Control Plan and maintain process control parameters within specifications.
5. Monitor and evaluate actions from line logbooks that may impact product quality or cause unnecessary downtime.
6. Review current process and machine capability, analyzing trend information alongside engineering and production teams.
7. Ensure full compliance with the Quality Plan for out-of-specification results and address non-compliance with ISO 9001 or Food Safety procedures.
About You
The ideal candidate is a graduate in Quality or Industrial Engineering, or a certified quality auditor with 3-5 years of experience in manufacturing. You should have proven experience with quality systems and process improvement in a fast-paced environment, with a strong understanding of process capability, SPC, and quality standards such as ISO 9001, BRC, or FSSC 22000. Excellent communication skills, team collaboration, organizational and problem-solving abilities are essential. Knowledge of continuous improvement tools, IT skills (SAP is an advantage), and a positive, safety-oriented mindset are also required. Comprehensive training will be provided.
