About the Role
We’re looking for a General Operative to support groundworkers and trade colleagues in delivering high‑quality repairs and refurbishment works to social housing properties across the Midlands. The role involves working safely, efficiently and to a high standard, contributing to first‑time fix and positive outcomes for residents.
Role Responsibilities
* Install fixtures such as curtains, blinds and door handles.
* Carry out painting and decorating tasks, requiring strong organisational skills.
* Fix leaking waste pipes and perform minor plumbing repairs.
* Replace light bulbs and check smoke alarms.
* Support cleaning and waste collection duties (training provided).
* Work collaboratively within the Repairs and Maintenance team, demonstrating teamwork and reliability.
* Deliver excellent customer service and maintain a professional, customer‑focused attitude.
* Communicate effectively with colleagues and residents, using clear verbal communication and good interpersonal skills.
* Make decisions and solve problems independently when needed, demonstrating confidence and initiative.
* Maintain high standards of safety, quality and cost control in all activities.
Key Criteria
* Experience performing the above duties.
* Understanding of building materials.
* Ability to work as part of a team and follow instructions.
* Commitment to high standards of health and safety.
* Valid UK driving licence (over 21, licence held >3 months, <9 points) if required to operate a Mears vehicle.
* Entitlement to work within the UK. Mears does not offer visa sponsorship.
* Willingness to undergo relevant Background, Identity & Security checks before commencement.
