Overview

We are seeking a suitably qualified Cardiac Physiologist to join our team at Ashford and St Peters NHS Foundation Trust. We are a very active department providing a wide range of investigations and are looking to expand our team of multi-skilled cardiac physiologists as our invasive services expand. We have a busy Pacemaker/ICD implant and follow-up service. The post holder will rotate through all aspects of the department and, as our 24/7 PPCI service operates, may rotate across both sites.

We are the leading implant centre in Surrey for ICDs and CRTs with an extensive remotely-monitored patient population. Applicants should have extensive bradycardia and complex pacing post-qualification experience including remote monitoring and FSN management. A BSc in Clinical Physiology/HTEC MPPM (or equivalent) and RCCP registration are desirable. Extensive knowledge and experience in invasive techniques are essential. Post-graduate learning for CRM (HRUK/IBHRE) is essential. Successful applicants would be expected to potentially rotate across both sites.

Clinical Duties And Responsibilities

* To participate in the provision of the cardiac rhythm management service, including remote monitoring, and related actions on field safety notices (FSNs) and the invasive cardiology service, assisting during the full range of cardiac procedures undertaken within diagnostics and the angiography suite.
* To maintain standards of technical competency in the provision of all technical cardiac procedures (invasive and non-invasive).
* To assist with the efficient running of the technical service by prioritising the daily workload where appropriate.
* To respond promptly and professionally to emergency situations, maintaining control and requesting assistance as necessary.
* To identify equipment faults and resolve fault issues by reporting them in a timely manner.
* To provide first-line interpretation and full technical reports of individual tests while reviewing/assisting with the reporting of studies performed by junior staff members.
* To stay up to date with latest trends in clinical physiology and translate these into practice within the area of responsibility.
* To assist with research studies as required and ensure all patients receive appropriate and individualised care.
* To undertake service provision and/or training in other areas of Clinical Physiology as required.
* To participate in the 24/7 on-call service provided by the Clinical Physiology department, as required.


Managerial

* To ensure that all data entered on the invasive database is timely and accurate and that statistical records and audits are produced when required.
* To deputise for the Operational Manager & Principal Cardiac Physiologist when necessary for management of the department.
* To be responsible for the management of junior cardiac physiology personnel and assist with recruitment and retention of staff within the Clinical Measurements Department.
* To assist with all aspects of the organisation and performance of the invasive angiography service, including management of the primary PCI rota and service for physiologists.
* To work with the Operations Manager & Principal Cardiac Physiologist to ensure procedures are in place to achieve Government targets in Cardiac Physiology services and to assist in the development of protocols, guidelines, and policies to achieve IQIPS accreditation.
* To implement local policies and guidelines and ensure they reflect current professional recommendations and evidence-based practice.
* To work in accordance with standards set by the Society for Cardiological Sciences and Technology (SCST) and the Registration Council for Clinical Physiologists (RCCP).
* To be familiar with Cerner, Solus and Pacenet and other computerised systems integral to the running of the department.
* To manage stock control and ensure staff are aware of economical use of supplies.
* To manage own time to balance clinical and administrative duties and to authorise agency/overtime/sickness in line with local policies.


Personnel

* To conduct oneself professionally and act as a role model to junior staff at all times.
* To supervise training, development and appraisal of professional competence of all staff within one’s area of responsibility.
* To demonstrate leadership and maintain open, constructive communication across all levels of staff and disciplines.
* To contribute to and actively participate in the correct reporting and handling of incidents and accidents.


Educational

* To participate in maintaining personal professional development and identifying educational and clinical training needs in conjunction with the Operational Manager & Principal Cardiac Physiologist.
* To maintain professional accreditation through Continuous Professional Development and Personal Development.
* To ensure mandatory training is up to date and participate in developing local competencies of junior staff, maintaining a progressive learning environment.
* To support a rigorous training programme within the department so that all physiologists attain state registration.


Administration

* To register patient attendances on the department’s Solus database and book appointments onto Solus, facilitating patient choice.
* To be familiar with Cerner, Solus and Pacenet to track patient progression, case notes, patient demographics and episode details.
* To order portering services on Cerner to facilitate movement of patients and/or equipment.
* To communicate efficiently by telephone with staff, patients and visitors; maintain department cleanliness and tidiness; and be cost-effective in the use of equipment and resources.
* To rebook patients who fail to attend and to contact patients with outstanding returns of ambulatory monitors.
* To undertake any other reasonable duties at the discretion of the Operational Manager & Principal Cardiac Physiologist or deputies.
