The role
As a Weapons Engineering Section Head, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary where you’ll join a new and highly motivated team of experienced Engineers and Technicians as they support and deliver Weapons Engineering systems back to the fleet.
Day-to-day, you’ll lead a small team in carrying out the maintenance, fault diagnosis, defect repair and administration associated with equipment onboard a Type 23 Frigate.
1. Responsible for the material state and engineering standards of equipment assigned to you throughout the upkeep period. You will be the Lead Technician and Subject Matter Expert for all medium calibre gun and Associated Director system maintenance tasks.
2. Assist in the commissioning process of systems within the scope, bringing them from a dormant to fully functional state in line with set procedures and trials.
3. Responsible for the ordering, installing and returning of spares relevant to your section’s equipment.
4. Carry out basic planning and engineering administration tasks for your section in support of your Group Head by utilising maintenance management systems, technical handbooks, upkeep procedures. You will be required to identify, diagnose and repair defects within your area of speciality.
This role is full time, 35 hours per week and is based at Devonport Royal Dockyard.
Essential experience of the Weapons Engineering Section Head
5. Experienced Engineer, Maintainer or Technician within the required specialisation - mechanical and electrical
6. Experience within a Supervisory role in previous employment
7. Be computer literate and able to use Microsoft Office applications to a reasonable standard, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and Teams.
8. Be familiar with current medium calibre gun, gun director and magazine spray systems fitted to Royal Navy Warships and have a recognised competency or demonstrable knowledge in at least one of the above mentioned systems - Desirable
Qualifications for the Weapons Engineering Section Head
9. NVQ Level 3 or above in an Engineering discipline is desirable or the equivalent demonstratable experience.
