Job Description
Reporting to the Head of Projects and Continuous Improvement, you will be responsible for facilitating the identification and overseeing the delivery of key improvements across the business to unlock benefits around cost, quality, service, engagement and safety. You will deliver large projects using a structured approach (Lean vs. Agile & Waterfall Project Management methodologies), whilst also supporting PMO activity. The Continuous Improvement Manager will encourage colleague participation and get leadership sponsorship to drive cultural change.
Stafford/ Midlands base with regional travel within the UK is essential for this position as it will cover our chilled network.
Working hours: Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week.
Key Duties of a Continuous Improvement Manager:
1. Identify opportunities to deliver improvements to health and safety, quality, cost and service via facilitating diagnostic events to aid the development of site and area CI plans, using lean tools and techniques and basic project management
2. Facilitating workshops to support CI and Project activity such as requirements gathering, current & future state mapping, problem solving and solution design activity
3. Provide support to establish governance and help individuals developing plans to support delivery of change; defining and implementing a suitable approach to quality, planning, resource, change control, change management, risk & issue management, cost management, benefit tracking, stakeholder management and communications
4. Managing/supporting the management of risks, issues, budget and change
5. Establishing and maintaining communication with key stakeholders in all parts of the project organisation (including clients and suppliers) i.e. reporting of all project & CI activity centrally
6. Closing the project/initiative in a controlled fashion (lessons learnt & handover)
7. Delivery of training and coaching regarding basic Project Management, CI methodologies & tools as well as effective change management
8. Support and provide oversight to tracking of benefits identified and realised as a result of change, engaging with relevant CLL finance and Projects & CI teams
9. Supporting the preparation of business cases and application for funding
10. Lead the delivery of 1 – 2 medium/large sized projects to unlock benefit
11. Support the gathering of data where required for diagnostics, solution design and benefits tracking, working with the Site Operational Systems lead
12. Engage with colleagues effectively throughout the CI and change process to ensure change is sustained & understood; implement sustainment tools such as Visual Management, Communication cells and Work Place Audits
13. Leading and motivating the delivery team
14. Support the development and sharing of best practice (CI, operations, project management)
Qualifications
15. Around 3-5 years’ experience of project management and CI in the logistics industry with knowledge of best practice tools & techniques
16. Qualified in formal project management methodology (PRINCE2 or APM)
17. Experience of/qualifications in continuous improvement methodologies & tools i.e. Lean, Six Sigma
18. Delivery of tangible and intangible benefits
19. Ideally knowledge of the sector (Chilled Long life)
20. Ideally experience of change within a transport environment as well as potentially a more transactional office based environment
21. Proficient with MS Office including MSP, PowerPoint, Visio, and Excel
22. Analytical with high attention to detail. Structured and methodical
23. Excellent communication skills both at a team level and Senior Stakeholder
24. Assertive, collaborative and resilient
25. Strong facilitation and coaching skills
26. Able to set clear objectives
27. High level of commercial awareness
