SENCO – Outstanding Secondary School – Bristol Start Date: As soon as possible Contract: Full-time, Permanent Salary: Paid to scale School Information This Outstanding Ofsted-rated 11–18 secondary school in Bristol is widely recognised for its exceptional SEND provision, inclusive ethos, and strong culture of personalised learning. The school has a well-established Learning Support Department that works collaboratively with teachers, pastoral leaders, therapists, and external agencies to ensure every learner has the support they need to thrive. The school provides specialist intervention rooms, sensory spaces, literacy and numeracy support programmes, and access to assistive technology. Leadership places SEND support at the centre of school improvement, ensuring SENCOs have the time, resources, and staffing needed to make meaningful impact. Role Information The SENCO will oversee the strategic leadership of SEND provision across the school. Responsibilities include managing Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), coordinating interventions, leading the Learning Support team, liaising with external agencies, maintaining statutory records, ensuring compliance with the SEND Code of Practice, and supporting teachers with differentiation strategies. Day-to-day duties involve carrying out classroom observations, running pupil progress meetings, supporting students with complex needs, organising access arrangements, delivering CPD to staff, and ensuring parents are fully engaged in their child’s educational journey. The SENCO plays a crucial role in shaping an inclusive culture and ensuring pupils with additional needs make strong progress. Requirements • NASENCO qualification (or willingness to complete) • Strong knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice • Experience supporting students with diverse additional needs • Excellent communication and leadership skills • Ability to work effectively with teachers, parents, and external agencies • Strong organisational and administrative skills • A commitment to inclusive education and high expectations Application To apply, please send your CV as soon as possible.
