Leadership places SEND support at the centre of school improvement, ensuring SENCOs have the time, resources, and staffing needed to make meaningful impact.
Role Information
The SENCO will oversee the strategic leadership of SEND provision across the school. Responsibilities include managing Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), coordinating interventions, leading the Learning Support team, liaising with external agencies, maintaining statutory records, ensuring compliance with the SEND Code of Practice, and supporting teachers with differentiation strategies.
Day-to-day duties involve carrying out classroom observations, running pupil progress meetings, supporting students with complex needs, organising access arrangements, delivering CPD to staff, and ensuring parents are fully engaged in their child's educational journey.
The SENCO plays a crucial role in shaping an inclusive culture and ensuring pupils with additional needs make strong progress.
Requirements
• NASENCO qualification (or willingness to complete)
• Strong knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice
• Experience supporting students with diverse additional needs
• Excellent communication and leadership skills
• Ability to work effectively with teachers, parents, and external agencies
• Strong organisational and administrative skills
• A commitment to inclusive education and high expectations
