The role
This is a remote position. 3 months contract with a local authority Job Purpose The Food Safety Officer / Environmental Health Officer (EHO) will be responsible for conducting food hygiene inspections and investigating complaints to ensure compliance with relevant food safety legislation. Key Duties/Accountabilities Conduct routine and risk-based food hygiene inspections across various premises. Assess compliance with food safety legislation, codes of practice, and local authority standards. Provide clear feedback and guidance to food business operators to achieve compliance. Investigate food-related complaints, including food safety concerns and hygiene issues. Gather evidence, carry out inspections, and take appropriate enforcement action where necessary. Prepare reports and documentation to support enforcement decisions. Essential Experience Required Experience in conducting food hygiene inspections and/or complaint investigations. Strong knowledge of food safety legislation and enforcement processes. Experience managing an independent caseload. Essential Qualifications Required Environmental Health degree or equivalent qualification (or Food Safety qualification recognized by the FSA). Must be Food Competent in line with the Food Law Code of Practice. Registration with the Environmental Health Registration Board (EHRB) or equivalent (desirable). Additional Information Working hours: 20 hours per week. Remote working. We operate on a bi-weekly schedule. The role closes on 29th May 2026, apply ASAP.
