About the role
* Responsible for the delivery of health, safety, and environmental risk strategy of the business as set by the Head of Safety & Risk.
* Delivery of ISO certified safety and environmental management systems.
* Subject Matter Expert for Smiths News on Health and Safety, Environmental risk, and Safety Culture. This includes all road transport and operational yard safety at Smiths News and third-party locations where Smiths News operate.
* Ownership of company health and safety policies, training, and audit regimes, ensuring that suitable and sufficient arrangements are in place and managed accordingly.
* Responsible for the delivery of Human Factors and Safety Culture Awareness programs in conjunction with the Head of Safety and Risk, empowering the business to embrace and embed positive behaviors reinforced through a just safety culture.
* Leading positive relationships and dialogue with principal internal and external stakeholders interested in the Smiths News business from a safe and legal perspective (Health and Safety Executive, DVSA, Local Authorities, Trade Associations, etc.)
* Ensuring all incidents and accidents are fully investigated by trained, competent colleagues, with escalation according to severity. Liaising with external stakeholders such as emergency services and media as needed.

About you
* At least Nebosh Level 3 or equivalent qualification
* Experience with ISO 45001 and ISO integrated systems
* Auditing qualifications and experience
* Environmental Risk qualifications
* Extensive accident investigation experience, including root cause analysis
* Effective communication skills, both oral and written, with ability to negotiate and influence at senior levels
* A valid UK driving license (company car may be provided)
