Main duties of the job

Job Summary:
This is an excellent opportunity for a general nurse wishing to develop. We are looking for a practice nurse to provide general nursing treatment room duties to all patients registered to the practice with scope of further training in chronic disease management and personalised care. The post Holder is an experienced nurse, who acting within their professional boundaries, will provide care for the presenting patient. They will demonstrate safe, clinical decision-making and expert care for patients within the general practice. They will work collaboratively with the multi-disciplinary general practice team to meet the needs of patients, supporting the delivery of policy and procedures, and providing nurse leadership as required.
Main duties and responsibilities
4. To work as part of the nursing team to provide a high quality of patient care
5. To provide appropriate independent care to patients working within the boundaries of the agreed practice protocols
6. To be skilled in providing all general nursing treatment room duties including the following:
7. Wound care / swab taking
8. Ear Syringing
9. Administration of injections including childhood immunisations
10. To undertake diagnostic procedures
11. Venepuncture
12. Doppler assessment
13. Electrocardiograms
14. Blood pressure monitoring
15. Provide health education at all opportunities
16. To provide emergency care as necessary and to attend mandatory annual training
17. Provide cervical screening
18. Provide current travel health advice and immunisations using recognised sources of information
19. Continue the treatment of patients referred by district nurses and refer to the district nursing team as appropriate
20. Infection control
21. To provide sick / annual leave cover to ensure that safe levels of nursing services are provided
22. Maintaining nursing equipment

In the performance of the duties outlined in this Job Description, the post-holder will have access to confidential information relating to patients and their carers, practice staff and other healthcare workers. 26. All staff with unsupervised access to children or vulnerable adults are DBS checked

Personal/Professional Development:
The post-holder will participate in any training programme implemented by the practice as part of this employment, such training may include:
38. Participation in an individual performance review, including taking responsibility for maintaining a record of own personal and/or professional development
39. Participation in:
40. a monthly programme of online training;
41. quarterly half day training sessions; and
42. annual CPR (basic life support) training.
Such training sessions are considered to form part of staff mandatory training and, being so, all staff are asked to attend these sessions. Overtime will be paid to those members of staff who are not scheduled to work at the time of such quarterly and annual training.
